Texas

I'd hurt myself trying to get the 'flock' outta Dodge from that thing!!!:lau
No clue on what kind of snake that is. I initially thought it was a diamond back, but stand by the cat being more effective. Snakes are good for one or so Valley sized rats a week, there isn't a limit to the number of presents I can get in a week from the cat. :)

Typical bull snake! I have some around my pens but no cats...they do make a dent in the mice population.
Tried to close one of the inside doors on one of my pens the other day...it didn't want to close, so looked up at the top of the door and I was trying to smush a 4' bull snake, he wasn't too happy about the squish treatment.:lau

Yup, it's just a bullsnake. It went right past some chicks to go in the nestboxes. If I know for sure it would only take eggs it could have stayed on the property but I wwasn' going to risk my chicks so I relocated it. I did lose a lot of chicks last year but that was a much smaller rat snake.

Anyone on here from the Corpus Christi area? I'm about 30 min north of Corpus and new(ish) to raising chickens.
Howdy, welcome to the Texas thread. Make yourself at home here.
I'm in the San Antonio area.

I do have my coop set up, and I have quite the menagerie of breeds (I like a colorful flock). I'm strictly keeping for eggs and enjoying the birds, not meat production at this time. We have 10 acres and a horse barn that I converted a 10x10 stall into a chicken coop. I wanted lots of ventilation because....well, its hot lol. Thanks for the welcome!
