Would you mind disclosing the name of the hatcherie? And thanks for the Sumatra recommendation. I've not heard of that breed.
It is Ideal hatchery. And real close to Austin. Their Sumatra are nice but pet quality but they do not die to hawks. Ours have overwintered 2years now without a loss. Winter is our hawk season here. I do not like their roosters. After being nearly blinded by one.

Just joined the other day. I have 12 hens, one rooster and 10 little FBCMs that are coming up on a week old. Oh and 70 beehives, 2 horses and 4 feral cats.
I'm a wee bit jelly on the bee experience you must have with 70 hives..... I'm trying to get my "ducks in a row" to get our first one this year.

Regardless, welcome to the neighborhood.

Ok my wife is away at the vets office and I unboxed my budget PC. Our newest cat got gang banged by 3 of our dogs last night. Plus our newest Mallanoise needs his privates removed. I guess I should have updated mine since 2014 but didn't. The thing updated in well under 30 minutes, my malwarebytes completed its scan in under in under 1 minute. Oh she is going to love how this thing doesn't act like a dog on facebook. We grabbed one of those Intel NUC systems as I am still cheap. Also I have an aversion to google chromebooks.

I would like a bee hive, how do we get started? Just don't try and sell me amazon crud.
We joined our local bee association/web group kinda thing...... Get email updates, they offer classes to help you prepare.... They are/were at the local(annual) jazz festival last year.

Thanks. Get a good bee suit first. The best one is Ultrabreeze. Pricey but outstanding. In 5 years even while dealing with a few Africanized hives, I have not been stung through the suit. Also, it is made in Oklahoma.

fascinating theory. Dare I assume its been a bit of experiecial sage advice as well?

Well maybe I "heard" that a friend of my 4th cousin's next door neighbor's great uncle's co-worker "may" have rolled a queen while doing a hive inspection. But he took eggs from the other hive and the worker bees made another queen.
