Texas

Mighty chilly this morning, 34°F @ 7:16am.
I'm not ready for cold weather, don't like it one bit.
Raw local data… low…

Anyone here in texas order from Privet hatchery lately?
I usually order from Ideal hatchery, but they seem to be out of every breed I want. I looked and it seems the next closest hatchery is Privett in NM. Anyone have experience with them?
if so do you remember how long the chicks were in transit?
with Ideal hatchery I always get the chicks in less than 24 hours.

Never dealt with privet. Sorry

Thinking back to teen years.......
I was 16, had a car, all day field day/track meet @ high school. Me in tank top and shorts. Daddy walked me to car. He looked around, north-purple black wall of clouds. He told me to go to house get sweats (a couple pairs) stocking hats (several) coat, socks. While I did that- He grabbed sack kitty litter, and a couple blankets and put in trunk. I thought he'd lost it.
3 hours later, blue norther blew threw, temp dropped from 70's to 40's in an hour.
I shared sweats with team, we stayed warm, even used blankets, other teams miserable. Going home that nite, it started sleeting, road got slippery, I understood blanket and kitty litter. Be prepared ahead of time.

I've only ever ordered from Ideal.

Not familiar with Privet. You might search or post in the "Chicken Breeders & Hatcheries" forum here on BYC if you haven't already. Could you postpone ordering until springtime when weather and breed availability might work more in your favor? Just thinkin'...
Normally I would not hesitate to postpone, however I already ordered them. For the last 2 weeks we have had a visitor (aka stray dog) decimate the flock. For the first visit we never saw the dog, however the second time it returned my husband saw it, and saw how it got through our fence. Needless to say the dog won’t be returning.
anyway, I have tons of girls in ICU, and some still missing, presumed dead, so since ideal hatchery didn’t have a ship date until 2023 for the breeds I wanted I decided to give Privett a try. I hope it all works out. If it doesn’t, then I will just wait for Ideal to send them to me.
