Well got woke up out of a sound sleep by emergency alert. A severe thunderstorm is .......take cover now. Yup its bad!

Foggy the last two days. Don't mind the fog, the fanged mosquitoes are a problem.

Speaking of problems, hen went broody on the coldest day of the year. Explain that one. I thought she was keeping her feet warm.

Yes, eggs in the incubator. Checking viability since they were collected during the freeze. Spot check says 5 good so far. The maran eggs are too dark this early to tell. And I found a home for 2 pullets. Happy New Year!

How many eggs was she sitting? You didn't let her keep em? I don't have an incubator, but if I did, I'd be tempted to split the eggs. Let broody hatch, incubator hatch, then slip babies under broody.......

It's East of me, and headed that way. There's a frontal line from Gonzales up to and past Bryan/College Station, and up to Texarkana.

DynaTraps are awesome, and a great source for chicken treats. When the reservoir gets full we take it and dump it in the coop. They go crazy eating the dehydrated bugs. Be sure to cover it with a small piece of wood or something since there are usually still a few bugs alive. They get to chase those to eat them.

I don't have a rooster in the neighborhood normally. A few neighbors do though. When I hatch a batch, I keep them for close to 5 months before freezing them. So I had to get eggs from a friend who collected in the freeze. She is taking good care of 4 golf balls though. I'll give her a couple of eggs closer to time, the weather is switching fast.

The rains just started again here. Not forecast to be severe though.

I will look into a Dynatrap.
