Thai Ridgeback or Argentinian Mastiff (Dogo Argentino)?

I agree with the others, I doubt your landlord would allow either of those breeds. Why not get something that looks scary, but is really a big chicken? like a great dane, boxer, or shepherd or something

I had a friend that bred both breeds. The dogos were MUCH more trainable and trustworthy than the thai ridbgebacks. Those thai dogs are just freaky, semi-feral, overprotective, high strung, dangerous dogs. They are not programed for obedience, but are programmed to be overly protective and hers spent a LOT of time in a crate. Like most of the time. Well bred dogos can be a compettetive obedience dog at an ARBA show, but I doubt a Thai Ridgeback could sneak up on a point even if he crept up on it at night from behind the clothesline.

The way it's REALLY gonna work is you will be evicted - immediately. Trust me. I've been a landlord for a really long time and you're not getting either one of those dogs. Worse part is that people like you pull this stuff and get thrown out then have no where to go because no other landlord will let these dogs in either.

The dog winds up on craigslist or the shelter and usually DEAD with 6 months. You know, one of those 5 million dogs killed in this country every year.

Congratulations! Another responsible pet owner....

well they know nothing about anything so unless they look into it it shouldnt be a problem, they just dont like the name "pit bull" as a lot of people dont just because most people are uneducated with the breed.....im still going to do more research, but so far this is what im going with. i appreciate everyones concern but this really was not the point of the thread, i am looking for breeders or people that have them. yes, i want an aggressive dog, i live by myself, the dog will be socialized with people i want around, but not with people i dont want coming into my house. i dont want a wimp of a dog. Any dog can scare someone off, but i want a dog who will do something about it. Yes, im gonna get a lot of grief over this, but if thats the case ill have the thread shut down and wont ask anyones opinion anymore and will do it myself. One of my big fears is someone coming into my house while im taking a shower. i heard a bunch of racket the other day while i was showering and still dont know what it was. my cat does not make that kind of noise and when i got out he was sleeping. i am a very experienced dog handler and have plenty of experience with pit bulls and mastiff and aggressive dogs. Im really not too worried about being able to handle the dog. I also have a very great training program that I use and it has never failed me. Im not rushing into anything, but I know what I want. And yes, I do want it to resemble a pitbull. I have always loved that breed and would like to get as close as i can to it. I could get a GP for in the house, but I dont want to do that to that kind of dog and its too big for my small house and much too hairy lol. I dont want any of what I would call the regular or typical breeds, if anyone has anything close to my description of what I want, let me know.

A dog is a dog and they are all products of their environment, so any well deserving pooches sitting in an over crowded shelter near you will make a great watch dog. If you actually want a dog that will stop a person either by deterring with intimidation or physically stop them, this will require training for both you and the dog and possible legal ramifications. I am a dog lover and firm believer that a person dog team is tough to beat. Any dog by it self is a poor match for a determined human, that is why we train them. Having said that I have a South African Bourboel it looks like a BullMastiff but with more current working history. I have one and there is another two in my immediate family and they are very instinctive temperament is part of their rating criteria when they evaluate possible breeding stock. Love mine

When you post your information on the internet and ask questions you are making it my business. Just because you don't get the answer you are looking for doesn't mean you should be defensive or rude. I stand by my opinion - it's not going to work.
