Thai Ridgeback or Argentinian Mastiff (Dogo Argentino)?

not quite....its not your business when you completely change the subject of what i posted.....its not that i didnt get the answer that i was looking for, its that that was not even the question!

Both of those breeds are so cool!

If neither works out, what about a Rottie? Great family dogs, and great guard dogs. Mostly because anyone dumb enough to break in is going to be dumb enough to fear them by reputation

I think you should go to a pound and rescue a medium sized dog of mixed breeding, and treat is so well that it will give it's life for you.

To buy a dangerous breed such as a Dogo, with little experience, is asking for BIG trouble

They also cannot take cold temps, so it will need to be an indoor dog if it's below freezing

If they say no to a pitbull.... I'd say chances are they'd take one look and say "no" to your choice of dogs because they have a "pit bull stature" muscular broad chest, and a deep neck. I don't think their insurance would cover it, because thats the problem I ran into here.

When in doubt though, I'd ask. Take photos of the dog you want (before you buy it) to the management/landlord. See what they say, it may just shock us all.

I understand that you really want a certain breed of dog. Eventually, the dog will grow up and she will see that it looks like a pit bull. Do you really want her to distrust you?

Perhaps one day you will own your own home. Then you can buy any breed that you want. Until then, adopt a dog, or buy one of the breeds that she approves for your home.

I've had both breeds stay at my boarding facility. My mother is a rare breed judge and I've shown many different breeds of dogs. I would have to say the Dogo is much easier to live with, but be sure to watch uncropped ears for bleeding and hematomas and tail splits. A well bred and socialized Dogo is a joy to know. The thai ridgeback is an odd dog, I think they are a bit more on the unpredictable side. At least the ones I've had experience with.....they were all from the same bloodlines so that could have something to do with it. As the other posters said-----be careful of the breed restrictions and make sure you have good insurance. Not everyone knows what breeds are, I've had animal control agents ask if my Irish Wolfhounds were pitbulls.

Oh, geez...this thread is a classic example of why I'm gonna give up BYC.

Ignorant hausfraus just going off at the keyboard on topics about which they know nothing.

As I said before, both of these breeds are great dogs, but they arent for everyone.
Both of those breeds need to be owned by someone who wants them for them, not for the way they look or becouse the owners want a mean dog.
Both require ALOT of training and have to be in terduced to lots of people.
I can understand your reasons for wanting one,but I dont think they are the right reasons to get either one of these breeds.
Both breeds cost alot from a good breeder and the breeder will ask several questions and when you tell them you want one to be a guard dog, they will most likey tell to you find a different breed unless you can prove you are willing to get training done for both you and the dog.

An aggressive dog with someone that doesn't know how to handle it responsibly is a disaster waiting to happen.

I'm hard pressed to believe anyone who would 'sneak in' a dog without their landlord's consent is acting responsibly.

This isn't going to end well OP, but I know you're not going to listen to people who disagree with you, so good luck.
