(We have plans to buy a farm asap - DH wants a cow...I said 50 chicks equals a cow, so we each get our fair share of farm animals to start off with...)

I had a client once (back when I was a lawyer) who paid a fortune for a condo, then found out she could only have one dog. She had two identical Norfolk Terriers. She asked me what to do. I told her, "Just don't walk them at the same time." We laughed about how the other residents would think she was devoted to her dog because she walked him so much!

Section A, Page 115, Paragraph 4 (Chicken Math for Dummies) states that one heifer is equal to 100 chicks. Unless it is a bred cow then she will equal 250 chicks.

Before moving to Texas, I was checking out each city we were looking at, to see what their chicken limit was. In some places I could have up to 4 chickens but no roos. Well in March 2011, we ended up in the country, so NO LIMIT!

So in May, I told hubby, let's start with 6, 3 BR, 1 GLW & 2 BO, I wanted EE, but they did not have any.

3 days later we were at a different feed store & still no EE, but a lot of cute BO, so we got 4 more, so we were up to 10.

2 weeks later, the fluffy butt stage was going away, and I went to get some chick start at the feed store, went in to see the baby chicks & what do they have but EE

, so I got 3. Total now...13

Well the EE were so cute , and 2 weeks later I had to go back for more chick start (just getting 5 lb bags at this point), well they had Light Brahma chicks, OMG they were adorable, so I got 2. A grand total of 15, but two separate flocks, the original 10 & the younger 5.

Hubby said that was enough, but then asked if I was going to let them hatch chicks come spring. I told him yes I wanted to, but needed to wait till the girls were older and laying full size eggs. Oh and the GLW turned out to be the only boy out of the 15 chickens.

Well then I started reading about silkies, and because my hens, lay their eggs and go, I wanted to have some hens who could be a momma to some eggs. So last week after checking Craig's list I found someone selling silkies, got two, but they don't really count because they are not really chickens. They are quiet, they do not look like a chicken, they like to sit in your lap, love to take a bath & get their hair blow dried. and are half the size of my 20 week EE, and one of the silkies is 16 weeks.

So the grand total is 17, but only 2 are laying, one is a roo, and the 2 silkies don't count. So would that mean I only have 2 chickens?????
