Thats NOT a chicken in our barn!

I didnt even know barn owl was a breed of them. All I know is theres been a few owls sticking around here for the last few yrs and a pair of them decided to make a nest in our barn

and yeah he was a baby, he had almost all Baby down and stuff but he could sure move! LOL and he was maybe a bit more then half the size of the parents. if you can see it in pics he was trying to put his wings beside/over his head for protection. Cute lol

Awww poor baby! We had one owl that has been around my city neighborhood for the last month - last night we saw there is now a second one. I have lived here for 13 years and there has never been owls. I love them and could sit and just listen to them call out to each other at night.

I think there have been chicken fatalities from owls, but it's rare. Owls will go after rabbits, mice, rats, they are mostly nocturnal feeders, however, i have seen them around in the afternoon. Never lost a chicken yet to an owl, but I wouldn't put it past em!

Pretty cute, to bad it died. I heard that they will kill chickens though...

I wouldnt doubt it but I had a banny rooster who was sleeping outside because I couldnt catch him for 3-4 weeks, Never bothered him.

Also a friend of ours who has some chickens says awhile back a Owl use to come into their barn and LITERALLY get on the roosts with the chicks and sit there, Never bothered them either. only problem we've ever had with owls is one 5-6 years ago attacked one of our younger cats

We have barn owls that nest and live on our property and they have never attacked a chicken. If you do a search you will find out that they can only eat small rodents or animals because they swallow thier food whole. After they digest thier food they regurgitate pellets wwhich contain the bones they can't digest. They are very beneficial to farmers and poultry keepers due to thier dietary preference for rats. This year, our barn owl family raised quadrouplets! We were really amazed.
