Updating my previous post: the White Marans did start laying. I am setting 40 eggs today! (I ordered some eggs as well, but as of 2:13am they were at the USPS distribution center, so they didn't get here in time for the hatch-a-long.)

Final (I promise!) update for the one tallying:

12 shipped eggs, barnyard mix, starting this evening around 6pm EST.

42 eggs, FBCM over over my nine girls (BR, GLW, BB, blue favaucana, white marans, cuckoo marans, cuckoo bluebar, and Swedish Flower), started at 12:30pm EST.

Set 28 eggs in our ReptiPro today! An assortment of standard and bantam eggs, in various breeds and mixes from our backyard flock. I'll candle them in 10 days to see what we've got. Hatch date *should* be April 20th.

Every year for the last 11 years we have webcast our hatch and the following 8 weeks of the chicks lives, online. Our 'Chickam' YouTube channel is here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCr7ICWyIMhWSp0UUJpAeTCw/live
Once the hatch begins the cam will run 24/7, with sound, so people all over the world can watch the chicks, and there is also a chat feature. Viewers get to name the chicks! We take name suggestions and draw one out of a hat as each chick hatches.
I always tell people to start checking the channel 2 days before the planned hatch date as banty eggs like to hatch early--if you tune in and see EGGS instead of a still picture of Jack, the hatch has begun!

I am looking forward to seeing it!

If you see that she is sitting tight..go for it. You said she was .. .. going... broody. Wait until you see her in there all snuggled down. And, it's up to you if you want to put chicks under her. I've had different experiences both ways..some accept them this way, some don't. I've even had the same hen accept them one year and not the next. Not sure why, she was in the same area as before. :idunno
X2!

I’ve got at least 14 bad air cells. But I put them in anyway, I figure now is as good a time to learn.

They look marginally better then when they arrived so I’m hoping some of them come through. I had enough space to pop some turners out and get cartons in.

I have a question on dark eggs... I’ve weighed every egg and I can’t really see in some of the marans eggs even with a real candler.

This may be a dumb question, but does the air sac continue to develop whether or not the embryo is developing? Is weighing just for humidity control or does it also tell you viability?
The air cell will still get bigger but not as much.

Weight loss is the best indicator for dark eggs
