The 4th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long

I'm in. No shipped eggs this time (I keep telling myself this). My girls are doing a great job in the egg department.


You still have eggs coming from me. If my girls would start laying.
Is there a sign up sheet? I'm in going to fire up the cabinet bator for thos hatch.

I really want to do this but is it ok to use mixed breed eggs? Do they have to be pure bred?

No they do not have to be pure bred. Many people hatch out mixed for the NYD hatch. Where in FL are you? I am in Brooksville. Make sure to subscribe to the Florida thread. Lots of great people over there.

No, they do not have to be purebred eggs. We love all chicks, pure and mixed.

Well, I don't know why I will set, but I haven't turned off my Bator for more than a week since this summer, so I'll play along!

Oh dear, I REALLY want to join you all, since I JUST got a used Little Giant incubator with an egg turner And the fan kit yesterday, and I CAN'T WAIT to try it out, but I am afraid Easter is just a week too early. See, we ordered some different chicks from McMurray with some friends for the 2nd week of April, and one of the friends also wanted me to hatch out some Delawares and some Ameraucanas, since we have them, BUT she preferred that the chicks be about the same age as the ones from McMurray so there wouldn't be a problem keeping them together. I figured one week difference wouldn't be too bad, but I am not sure about two weeks difference in age. So I was planning on setting the eggs about a week after you all are starting this hatch-along.

Oh well, I will hang out anyway, if that is ok, and maybe I can join for real next time!

I'm new to this whole "hatch-along" thing... Do we just set eggs at the same time? Sounds fun! I've never hatched eggs before... Should I give it a try?

Yes we set them at the same time or as close to the same time as possible so we all hatch around the same time. Give it a go!
