So now the contests are only open to US residents? Does that include the Hatch-along as well? How disappointing

I was so hopeful this hatch-along would be more inclusive rather than less. Very disappointing indeed.

Unfortunately, it's up to the sponsor that is donating the prize. I didn't like it either, and I'm trying to see what we can do to include those in Canada. Obviously though, any prize that is hatching eggs we won't be able to include Canada, as we can't send eggs over the border.

The hatch-a-long is for everyone - not matter what country you reside in.

They are actually the same model (I believe). They're a pretty decent 'hands-on' incubator. I got one as my first incubator and loved it. I wouldn't really recommend it as a hatcher, though, because of the fan. Ideally, you want a still-air hatcher, so fluff doesn't stick to everything. It's a bit of a pain cleaning around the fan blades. If you can't find a cheap still-air one, then this is a good option.

I had been reading that some people prefer still-air for hatching. Does one work better, or is the still-air preferred just for the fan cleaning reason?

Quote: Still air incubators are prone to temperature variations. It is easy to make one part too hot and another part too cold. They work ok as hatchers but if you can get a digital fan forced incubator for a good price to use it is safer.

Thats what I figured.. Just a little bit more clean up afterwards, but I would rather that than have no eggs hatch! Thanks

Quote: I am incubating in a Brinsea Octagon 40 and hatching in the Genesis 1588. I have two of those and also have the second one incubating too. Staggered hatches are fun! I hatched UofA blues over the weekend and put 6 Crele Penedesencas into lockdown last night. Next Friday I hatch 13 Bresse eggs. I also have 45 Dorking and Delaware eggs hatcing in a couple of weeks and then 15 duck eggs set to hatch in 3 weeks. Next Wed. I will be adding 15 Heritage RIRs from Ron Fogle. Mid March I am getting a dozen Heritage Black Australorps.

I swear I will be done after that. I will be setting more Dorkings for the Hatch a long. I hatch for others and may be hatching for a local egg farm as well as the Breeder from Guinda.
