After seeing all of the cute duckling photos, I figured that I should post one of my own. Here is one of my black east indie ducklings that I recieved on Valentines day. They are now a week and a half old and they're huge! I can't believe how fast these little guys grow!

What a sweet face

April is going to be a VERY EXCITING month for my family, as we will not only have the chicks I am hatching in the hatch-along, but we have an order from McMurray coming on the 8th of April, for some more BOs and a couple of SLWs (yay!), and then on the week of the 15th we are getting in 100 cornish broiler chicks for my brother's meat chicken business(those go in two huge brooders in the garage), and THEN on the week of the 22nd we are getting an order from Cackle with 8 BBW turkeys(our first time with turkeys!) and 12 Welsh Harlequin and Anacona ducks for my sister's laying duck flock! Somehow we will find room for all of them...

We have a nice breeding pair of Black Cochins, here is a shot from the 4-H fair last fall of the cockerel . We will set 6 eggs

Holy cow!

That guy is huge! I think I understand now why they're called "giant" Cochins. I have never seen a size comparison for Cochins, other than the bantams.

in the MO state fair we always have these HUGE orpingtons and jersey giants. its like they gave them some growth hormone. i wouldnt be surprised if they weighed 15- 20 lbs!

I have yet to see a JG roo in person, but last year at the county fair someone had a massive BO roo. He was so cool! I think someone else had a big ol' BA roo, too. He was just sitting in his cage chillin', but even at that, I could see that he was huge. Makes me miss one of my Black Ameraucana boys I was raising last year. He was so big and pretty. Someone stole him

I saw on FB that a very nice woman had her prize Paint Silky stolen from her trailer at the Nunan GA show last weekend. She developed the variety and said it was the best one she has ever raised. They wanted everyone to keep an eye out for the bird and to report it if you know where it is or who has it.

I didn't realize there were still chicken theives in our midst.

You guys are making me miss our goat Sugar. My mom wanted a pet goat for some reason and we found someone fairly close that had them. We didn't like any of the ones we saw and he showed us the a tiny little girl that had been rejected by her mother. She looked like a nubian and acted like a dog. We loved her so much. We lost her about two years ago. She was about 10 years old.

I saw that too! What a world we live in when you have to worry about your chickens being stolen. What a freakin' @$$#*!@!!!

We are planning on keeping the turkeys in a separate shelter/pen than the ducks and chickens. I am really looking forward to them...Ok, maybe more to the tasty home-raised turkey meals we will have in the fall...

These are strictly for meat, and to try them out. My brother wants to get some Heritage breed turkeys in the future and try and keep breeding stock.
