Thank you...do you think after just four days the ones that were cooler may have a chance? The Accurites read different. I have 4 and have moved them around and the top always reads higher. The Brinsea digital reads lower overall. Are you sure all the thermometers are reading the same? It doesn't make a lot of sense that an incubator with fan would have such variance.
If your certain of the temp readings I'd just put most of the eggs in the still air and keep the remaining eggs in the half of of incubator with fan that is reading correct temperature. You can move the turner to the still air. I'm sure you know still air incubation is done at 101-102F at top of eggs reading.
It's still early in this incubation so getting things right now will go a long way.
I usually candle chickens around day 5 & 10 (never toss anything on 1st candle) & again at lockdown. Ducks get about day 7, 15 & lockdown. Quail get day 7 & lockdown. I always mark suspicious eggs at 1st candle & toss the 2nd time I see an issue if it is definitely bad. Anything with any chance at all goes into lockdown. I've had tons of eggs I swore were bad at somepoint end up hatching perfect little babies.I don't toss eggs until day 14. It's undeniable by that time if never developed or stopped. Day 7 candling for me is more to see a few developing to ease any fears and check on air cell to adjust the humidity or not.
Definitely leave them. They may hatch a couple days behind the others but definitely don't give up on them yet.Thank you...do you think after just four days the ones that were cooler may have a chance?
Nope, not true. My rooster is 3 1/2 years old mated to a 7 month old pullet, which gave me 3 pullets and 8 cockerels. And the hen determines the sex of the offspring. On a different note a big breeder here in Oklahoma told me this weekend that an older roo over younger hens breeds more pullets, where a younger roo bred over older hens results in more cockerals. I have 6 of his chicks from a young roo now and 12 eggs from an older roo. Going to see if that pans out. Anyone ever hear that before?
Adorable, congrats!
So gorgeous. I'm sure I'd freeze to death, but gorgeous!
Good morning everybody!!! This was 3 weeks ago at my place & now everything is melting! Winter is just a bit more bearable here, when you can see the natural beauty of it!
That's my coop up there, there's a smaller one tucked back there, but its abandoned. Will be building a new one on top of the old foundation. Yay!
My LG is holding on to temp & humidity very well these few days. Hope it keeps until lockdown. Then things get crazy trying to get humidity up. Including me! LOL! Will candle later today. Weeeeeee!
Congrats!![]()
Here they are this morning!! Starting to fluff up a bit .... I have 8 chickies this morning!!!
2 were born during the night!
Thanks for all the hatching advice guys!!!
Welsummer eggs can be difficult. If you have ANY doubt, leave it in the bator until Day 18. I had one in my last hatch that looked like a blood ring, but it was viable and hatched.Today is candling day for meDay 7! I won't get to until later on today when I get off from work, I'm so excited, I plan to log each egg in a notebook just to keep its progress and will snap some pics too! I already know many of the eggs are developing because I candled before when I needed to open the bator as the temp was rising and it made me nervous, but I didn't candle them all, so looking forward to seeing what's going on. Sadly, I'm pretty positive both the Silver penciled rocks are both clears
But, that's ok, they werent really part of the plan anyway. I'm already thinking of getting a few welsummers, ee's and maybe a couple other eggs to try out because I want a pretty egg basket at some point.
..That will probably be later this year, after I extend the run this summer. I love looking at all of your alls beautiful colored eggs!!![]()
I did figure out that I have 3 blue silkie eggs and 3 black silkie eggs not 6 black silkie eggs...I confused the labeling on the eggs.
Any tips for what I should and shouldn't be looking for. I have a print out of the egg air cell pic to compare too and I know about blood rings, anything else? I do plan to keep all the eggs in the bator unless their are some that are just undeniably not developing, I'm a newbie so I don't want to trash a fertile egg!
So cute! Sorry about the others.Good morning everyone!![]()
Out of 24 eggs, I got ONE chickHe's a fatty and very alert. So I'm happy about that. But really... 1.... out of 24...
And the one that I got was from shipped eggs I put under the broody hen I have. So frustrated. Cant wait for my new incubator to get here.![]()
But here's a pic of the new chick. He's a fluffybutt.
I think I posted this yesterday.. if so, Sorry for the double pic post.
