Looks like I'll have a few of the hubby's New Hampshires to incubate. He's really excited about this years Hatch-a-long

Came home to first baby out. It's one of my backyard mixes and it totally looks like it's going to be heavily bearded! And it's beautiful. I haven't opened the lid yet due to so many other pips, but I took this photo through the lid.

Just about 45 minutes ago I heard a loud cheeping from the 'bator and went in to find a freshly hatched chick from one of my blue eggs. It looks like it will be a smooth headed EE, but if I'm lucky it will be a frizzle :) No photo yet cause it's on a side of the 'bator that is hard to light for photos.

My wrong-end pipper from this morning does not appear to have made any progress. No additional shell cracked and only a small additional tear in the exposed membrane. How long should I wait until I try to help? The chick pipped at least 15 hours ago, probably longer since I was asleep when it pipped.

Tons more pips and getting so impatient. Got the brooder stocked with food and water and the lights are on to get it up to temp. Will probably put the babies in there in the morning just to be sure it's holding a good temp and cause I don't want to open the 'bator lid unless I absolutely have to until a lot of these pips have hatched.

I have 8 of my hens' eggs (in lockdown as of today. They were to test fertility and my incubator...(I had 10 but 2 were clear. These 8 all look good...
I also am waiting for 3 (!) boxes of eggs to arrive this week- My long awaited for Silver Birchen Maran eggs from BYC Raven1, some more Speckled Sussex eggs from Ebay (my last SS hen is out there in the pen now and going on 5 yrs old), and a rare assortment of eggs from BYC Cowgirl...Marans, Ameraucanas, RLBW, and a few more I'm forgetting...I won't say how many I'm getting (or setting) now- will see how they are packed and make the trip, and don't want to spoil the 'guessing how many eggs are set' contest...
I'm getting very 'egg-cited'!!!

Pics as soon as any of these 8 eggs hatch.

Wait it out. The chicks that have hatched already had their internal pip moment that you never saw. They rested and acclimated their lungs, and started absorbing yolk, all before you ever saw the 1st pip of theirs. When you saw the upside down baby's pip, that was his first encounter with breath and absorbing the yolk. He's having his rest moment. He'll be along shortly I'll bet.

Should I be worried that the membrane where he knocked the shell off is opaque?
