That's good to know - we have two horses, living in the same building as our coop. I guess that puts us at somewhat higher risk... I think I'll talk to our family dr about vaccinating the kids early too. They'll get the vaccines in their schools vaccine program, but the tetanus shot is given at age 11... That's a long time to wait

Tetanus likes puncture type wounds where oxygen can't reach. It usually doesn't survive in surface scrapes that can be washed out well. If a kid steps on a nail or something like that, a tetanus shot is absolutely needed...
And of course horses have their own tetanus boosters yearly. I think people only get them every 7 years unless their if a deep puncture, and then they'll get a booster....
