Hi there, My very first post. I have set and hatched already this year. My first batch with my new rooster and hens have hatched with 12 out 13 success rate. I was very happy. I am preparing for my second batch and saw this thread and want to join. I have many different breeds that are not separated yet because I saved them from a family who were no longer able to keep them. I am however; looking to separate them by breed soon. So, for now; I am hatching mixed breeds. How does everyone find mixed breeds do for egg laying? Are they better if I separate them? Thank you for the information :)

Hello and welcome. I find my mixed bred pullets lay very well. I get a variety of beautiful colors and egg shapes. The eggs are large to extra large The mixed breeds seem to be very hardy.

What breeds do you have that will be crossed in your hatch?

Thanks everyone. We're thinking predator since she did so well last year and that was her first time hatching and raising babies. oz, we're not big fans of duck around here.   They're dad's and he just really likes raising them.

I'm hoping she'll try again, but I don't know much about ducks. Does anyone know if she'll try again? Both ducks are mallards.

I'm thinking Ducky Girl will try again since it is so early in the duck breeding season. I'm pulling for her anyway. :)

Hi

welcome to the brood. Want to wish you luck with your mixed hatch. Whether you get meat birds or good layers I think depends on what you are crossing. At least from what I have read so far. I have pure breed and mixed paddocks depending on what my end goal is. Again welcome

I have a BCM roo over a barred rock and a few EEs. My others will be pure Delawares and BLRWs.

on the side that the power cord is hanging out of there is a little cover held on by 1 screw, remove the screw take the cover off and serial number should be printed on a little tag right there inside of that. The temperature in just screw is under there also.

It is easiest to find on the box it came in. There should be a label there with the serial # of your unit.

Thanks! I found it on box. But it's good to know where it is on the machine too.

My friend is letting me borrow her incubator!!! Now I can relax and stop worrying about getting to many eggs....and start worrying about having to brood too many chicks...

That is good. My recent experience with stacking did not go very well. I stacked eggs because I thought I would get a lot of infertile eggs which I would cull after about a week. I thought after I culled I would still end with an incubator full. Well I had few infertile eggs so I had to leave them stacked during incubation. I marked the stacked eggs and only a few of the stacked eggs hatched. I don't think I will stack throughout incubation again. Has anyone else stacked eggs throughout incubation before? How did it turn out?

manna pro sells an egg cleanser that has instructions for cleaning hatching eggs.

If it is dry dirt brush it off. If it is sticky goo, use water that is about 85 degrees and rinse with it.

The Manna Pro cleanser works fine--I have used it to clean dirty eggs and the eggs hatched fine.

Thanks y'all. It's either mud or poop, and it's really caked on a few of them. Some are spotless. I'll try my fingernail and a dry paper towel, and go from there.
