Finally got my roo!! He is a Welsummer. I set 2 eggs today under a broody Orp and will save the rest for the hatch a long!! He lost the top of his comb over the winter.
Oh, I like him, even in the shadow. Some of my cocks lost a lot of comb, too, but the ones who had to stay cooped up in their cock house did not, even in the sub-zero winds.

Hatch rates will be lower for eggs older than 2 weeks. Shipped eggs should not be older than 7 days because of the added stress from shipping.

Older eggs will still hatch--I would not set eggs older than 30 days and if I did I would watch them very closely for rotting.

Thank you ron for this information!

Ok so after checking everything and confirming everything I will be hatching...
-Black Australorp
-Americana(I know I am spelling it wrong but I don't have the energy to look up the correct spelling)
-Buff Orpingtons
-LAVENDER Orpingtons!!(so excited about these)
-Jersey Giants
-Olive Eggers(MaranXAmericana)
-Mixed Marans(the pen has both Wheaten and French black copper hens and roosters)
-Cortnix Quail
And there is a chance I might get a couple Silver Laced Wyndottes

Most exciting hatch EVER!!!

im experimenting now with just plain old WASHED eggs vs UNWASHED eggs.....candeled them and  the washed eggs are winning by a landslide:confused:
Same eggs, source, etc? The only difference between them is whether they were washed? Everything I've ever read says don't wash them because of risk of contamination without the bloom.
