Seeping is bad, get rid of that one. Any that have detached air sacs you don't turn for a few days to give them a chance to reattach.Ive been told not to turn my shipped eggs....even though im turning them 3 times a day. Thy have detatched air cells, and turning one this morning I found that its seeping
You are welcome to hang around! We have the set window for the contests, but you are always welcome on the thread!I have a girl who is full on broody. She just started to set this weekend and I didn't want to start her with eggs until I was sure she was staying put. She is young and this will be her first brood but I am going to let her keep her clutch today. I realize I am out of the window for the Hatch a long but I plan to tag in just to chat and get advice as I have only had one other broody hatch.![]()

It is my neighbors fault. I love her to death, but it is all her fault. Here I am going about my day, minding my own business. There are 16 happy as can be juvenile chicks bouncing around the big coop with the adults. Another 12 slightly younger chicks bouncing around a brooder in the laundry room waiting their turn to join the big flock. There are 37 eggs cooking in the various incubators for our "Incubator Wars." (It is so much fun.) Then she calls. At first it is all small talk and niceties. Then she drops "the question." Apparently she is going shopping in a different county and will be near a "different" local feed store. And as any good shopper and chicken raiser does, she called ahead to see what they had in stock. It would seem they have a few Speckled Sussex chicks in need of a good home. (Here it comes.) She was wondering if I would like her to bring some back for me...I should answer no...
I need to answer no.
I really don't need any more chicks... at the moment...
I already have two Speckled Sussex eggs in the incubator...
but, what if they don't hatch...
It is a possibility... we have had incubator issues before...
After all, you aren't supposed to count your chicks before they hatch, right...
I am sure I could just squeeze a couple more chicks in...
DH won't notice just a few more, would he?...
He wouldn't get mad at me, right...
I can always ask for forgiveness instead of permission...
Yes! but not to many, maybe two or three! There, see, I limited myself.
I am so ashamed!
Those cute little fluff-balls.Those future egg machines. I just can't say no.
DH just shakes his head and sighs at this pitiful women who looks at that cute little beak and eyes to big for their head and feels the super soft fuzziness, and then caves. I am sure there must be a chickenaholics anonymous somewhere that won't mind a "minor" addiction.

Thanks! I knew there was a window and I was just outside. Just wanted to follow along with some folks.Seeping is bad, get rid of that one. Any that have detached air sacs you don't turn for a few days to give them a chance to reattach.

What should people with auto-turners do? Turning off the auto-turner (as I have done), means the eggs with good air sacs are not turning either. Is there any harm in not turning any eggs for first 3-5 days?Seeping is bad, get rid of that one. Any that have detached air sacs you don't turn for a few days to give them a chance to reattach.

Quote: I would do the same.
I don't vaccinate my flocks. And I haven't tried vent sexing.Has anyone here tried vaccinating their chicks against Marek's? Is it that easy as shown in this video?
Also, has someone tried vent sexing? This video makes it look so easy, I wonder whether its because he is an expert or it really is that easy:
Can one vent sex even after a day, let's say at 1 week or 2 weeks?
