The 9th Annual BYC Easter Hatchalong!

Of my 23, I pulled 2 no-goes from my EEs and there may be a quitter in my purchased CCL eggs. Everyone else looks great.

Working on building cabinet incubator for my farm . Next- build door.

Candled shipped eggs. Very bad large air cells which was expected.
Question does one up the humidity for them to try and help weight loss or leave them at 40%? I now have the other shipped eggs in with them. Anyone try higher humidity with shipped eggs?

Yes, if the air cell/weight loss is going to fast you can up the humidity.

I’m sorry to post this here, but there is hatching going on here and i need some help keeping me sane...

The chicks are playing some serious rugby with their sibblings, should i take them out when they’re dry? I tested it beforehand and the humidity is back up to standard within 2 minutes of opening the incubator. Also, the egg with the airchamber on the side that pipped yesterday around noon is not progressing, should i be worried?

I have the heating plate set up, but it gets to 104 F beneth it on the towels, should i tune it down a bit with the switch or is that fine? I guess if the towels are 104, the plate is even hotter...

Yes you can take dry chicks out. You would want the temp to be about 95 to start with.

Since my eggs are in my neighbor's incubator, I'll won't be candling until at least Tuesday. I had a lot of trouble seeing into the Marans eggs last year and the Ameraucana weren't much easier.

Do you still have Icelandics?

This is why I hatch in egg cartons.

Yes, you can take them out. I don't remove chicks if anyone is zipping though. On the one that pipped yesterday, what color is the membrane? The chick might just be resting and finishing absorbing the yolk. I wouldn't start worrying until this afternoon unless the membrane turns brown or clear, that means the chick is stuck. The membrane should be white.

104* is way too hot. Get it around 90* and then watch the chicks. Hot chicks will be lethargic and panting. Cold chicks will be peeping REALLY loudly. Quiet and soft chirping chicks is normal.

Egg carton hatching is awesome. No bowling action.
