Here's a weird question: Has anyone ever had a funky smell around the incubator? The students and I cleaned the incubator with a light bleach solution and let it dry fully before we set our eggs.
Now there's a smell in there- almost a slightly "fishy" smell, a bit like a dead animal. I can't tell if it's exactly coming from the incubator, maybe the surrounding area. Can an egg (gone bad) make a smell like that? I got these eggs from a breeder, she said she had just collected them the day before.
Keep the settings like they are. Sometimes what you look for in a developing egg like that is increasing darkness. Getting lighter or seeing a glow in the egg is bad.Oh my gosh, it's a different color from the other Easter Eggers - (Green) bluish green egg-read that green pigment is hard to see through like the French Copper Maran dark brown eggs. I do not have any of the egg showing any light. Wow. Going to borrow my hubby's super flashlight tomorrow. So it is definitely fertile! But I can't see in it. I have 19-37% humidity on the low side and today it went up into the 50's degree mark. Added a lil water when it went to 19%...they are so dark, it looks like they could hatch this week - not March 31. My Araucana blue egg is so much easier to see through.
Yes, take them out when they are dry. I hatch in cartons or trays to avoid the hockey games they play with the eggs.I’m sorry to post this here, but there is hatching going on here and i need some help keeping me sane...
The chicks are playing some serious rugby with their sibblings, should i take them out when they’re dry? I tested it beforehand and the humidity is back up to standard within 2 minutes of opening the incubator. Also, the egg with the airchamber on the side that pipped yesterday around noon is not progressing, should i be worried?
I have the heating plate set up, but it gets to 104 F beneth it on the towels, should i tune it down a bit with the switch or is that fine? I guess if the towels are 104, the plate is even hotter...
I am very confused when you say tune it down. Neither the brinsea or Premier one have settings. Are you using something else?I checked, bit they’re talking about the heat lamp and i wondered if the heat plate works differently since it’s getting hotter, i’ll tune it down then.
Yep, bad eggs can smell. Do the sniff test of each egg and toss the bad one. Here's a weird question: Has anyone ever had a funky smell around the incubator? The students and I cleaned the incubator with a light bleach solution and let it dry fully before we set our eggs.

Yes, Audun will be 8 (edited this) at the end of this month (Anna and Asta both passed). I have about 10 hens/pullets and a cockerel that hatched last year. I also have an Ayam Cemani cockerel with the flock so no pure eggs right now.Do you still have Icelandics?
