New to incubating so I will be following along. I already started my eggs, this is day 3. I need all the help I can get. This is my 2nd attempt. My first batch didn't go so well. Lot of things I did wrong or didn't know. So I studied, researched, and purchased equipment, and here we are.
I'm trying really, really hard not to succumb to the temptations....![]()
Okay....so I'm not at all strong enough to resist the temptation of the Easter Hatchalong.I just ordered some eggs to be delivered in time to set on Thursday (within the 2 day leeway). I have a friend with a Sportsman that will be incubating the eggs for me. If I have a broody (or broodies) that decides to sit before hatch day, I'll move eggs.
I am a Easter Hatchaholic and I admit it.![]()
I am!! (see quote above)Why? Just set some eggs, please!
Well it's 60 deg, sunshine! Tomorrow @30 deg & Snow! My poor hens are wanting to hatch a few, but the crazy Michigan weather is giving mine mixed emotions, too. I'm grabbing the eggs, for the Bator. I'm quick cleaning the coop while everything is thawed & setting them up a nicer nest area. Too much commotion, the neighbors male guinea moved in. So, working on getting him some hens & moving him out. Coyotes came through...For me the bad news is that the hen who abandoned her eggs after two days last week (and I am now incubating in ye ole brinsea) had her fluffy butt parked on two eggs again tonight. Needless to say I hate being 'mean' to her but I took the eggs and unceremoniously plopped said fluffy butt up on the roost bar. No time for such nonsense. She is a very sweet hen named Iris, but it's fish or cut bait, little girl!
Just asked DH if he would notice if the four fertile bantam eggs sitting on the counter suddenly and mysteriously appeared in the incubator. One word response......Yes.
crap.
I hope you get an incubator!I want to hatch ducklings for the hatch a long this year but so far I’ve only found seven eggs. If I leave them locked up the eggs disappear. If I let them range the eggs turn up in the oddest places. Of course, all of this is moot if hubby doesn’t bring home an incubator tomorrow. My old styrofoam incubator saw it’s last hatch this past summer. DH is on nights this week so the only time he can stop by TSC is on the way home. I’m not allowed to go to TSC at this time because I can’t be trusted not to bring home chicks. I have to stick with the plan of breeding only my EEs this year.
x2!I hope you get an incubator!
