Check out the caramel ooze that formed from slowly incubating for hours on end. The brown sugar was part of the Brine Cure that soaked into the project and slowly seeped out during the smoking/steaming.
That's not burn, it's smokey caramel.View attachment 1321339 Successful indeed. Squirting juice. Have you hugged your local pig farmer lately?View attachment 1321345

It is a float test to see if the egg has a chick in it. Sometimes the egg will wiggle with a live chick.

I tap the egg and listen for peeps and will candle. If I hear cheeping or see a chick inside the air cell, I will use a needle to poke a hole into the top of the air cell to see if that gets the chick going If I hear one. If I do not see sings of life after day 23 or so I will carefully open all of the eggs.
Our hatch prior to April 1st, on day 24 we tossed the balance of no hatches in the waste can. A short time later we heard a chirping in the trash bag. Tried to rescue the little dude but failed. Never a dull moment. Who can actually say "I've seen it all?".. not us.

I have had no signs of life and then found a live one. It is iffy with those but I have had them survive.

Eeks! Yesterday was a busy day and I didn't have time to come online, but of my 13 eggs set, I now have 6 baby Marans! :love Pictures will be posted later today.

The ones that hatched were from a lady on here I bought eggs from. Of the 8 shipped eggs from her, these 6 hatched. Not bad for shipped eggs! I bought the remaining ones on ebay, and 4 weren't even fertilized, and the rest didn't make it past week 2. Lesson learned.

That is really good for shipped eggs!

Sometimes shipped eggs will not develop because of shipping stress. It is not always because the eggs were not fertile.

Final count 24 little fluff balls running around . Happy Easter
