The adventures of Barbara (BR)

Yes, Big Barbara was most impressed! Hopefully Cynthia did not call all her relatives and tell them that Barbara has become a woman. . . .similar to the situation of MrsChickendad whose father many, many (MANY) years ago announced it to the whole family at Christmas. . .

Barbara says she still holds out hope for a blue egg, perhaps Little Barbara will unlock the secret.

That is so funny...... I'm sure it wasn't then, tho.

Anyhow, what does "Freezer Camp" mean? I'm thinking that one or more of my 5 month old cockerels might be getting scholarships there, too.......but they are not certain how to apply.

Our local Freezer Camp is reasonable and efficient. After spending 4 hours processing 2 birds, the Chickendads decided that $2.25 scholarship fee per bird was well worth the money. The boys all came back clean, dressed in a plastic bag and weighed, ready for the freezer. Now I just have to convince myself to cook and eat them.

I found the Adventures of Barbara a week ago and haven't gotten a thing done during my lunch breaks all week! Finally got to page 112 and I have a question. At times I've felt a little like when I was a kid in math class (yuck!) and was given a problem like... " The bus started from SanFrancisco with 14 people aboard and stopped in Las Vegas and let out 3 and took on 21; then stopped in Omaha and dropped off 16 and took on 7, and stopped in .... so, how many were in the bus when it stopped in Boston?" I just haven't been able to keep an accurate picture in my head of how many chickens you have mulching your sidewalks, picking the pink flowers, or tightrope walking the fences, so, what is the total number of chickens that you currently have Mrs. Chickendad?

BTW - Give Barbara my love - she is fabulous! So are you!

Thank you!!! I'm feeling better (about my evil thoughts) already.....

For years I've been locked in a loop, kind of like a badly written program, about making a distinction between pets and livestock. I know that keeping a backyard flock involves culling to achieve certain goals, and I know that nature is not about the individual, but about the species, but it's hard, hard, hard.

Thank You! Actually, (not trying to be a smart aleck) I have no idea how many chickens we have. Maybe this will help you visualize it:
Main Coop: 10 Chickie Girls laying hens (including Barbara), presided over by Bob the Wheaten Ameraucana, and his assistant, Leroy (lemon bantam cochin.
Main Coop, Group 2: Walter, the BLRW and his three BLRW ladies: Wendy, Wanda and Winona. Also the Silver Ameraucana hen ("Silverette"-not particularly original name) who was hatched with them and puts up with Walter's attentions.
Cochin Coop: Scooter (white bantam cochin), his six white ladies (including Cecily), 3 of his little fluffy white sons, and a broody buff hen who is sitting on wheaten ameraucana eggs due to hatch Friday.
Mille Fleur cochin pen: 2 pairs of Mille Fleur cochin project birds.
Miscellaneous pens of bantam cochin and white rock babies, BLRW babies, Ameraucana babies, mille fleur cochin babies, and one love child. Now I'm confused!
