The adventures of Barbara (BR)

How traumatic!

I'm sure there are a lot of emotions going on. I know how you feel. My dd's dog, who was used to the chickens and never bothered them, one day decided one of my black stars looked like a good playmate. By the time I got out side, Abby, the dog, was standing over the hen with a look of "why won't she get up?" "I was just playing."

Then hen wasn't dead, but I think she had fainted! It took her a while to come to. But she did die about 3 days later.

Then my neighbors jack russell got loose one day and went straight for the chickens. It is hard to get mad at my good neighbors, as they love my chickens and felt so bad. He only got a hold of one. But if the neighbor never acknowledged the attack, It would be a different story!

I always try to live at peace with those around me, But I'm like you, I would feel like tying every dead chicken on their doors and put one in the truck, positioning them so they look like they are watching them! So when they came opened their doors, the chickens would be "looking" them right in the eye!!

I know, It sounds really sick, but it's fun to think about the look on their faces!!

Congrats on your new one! I'm hoping to get some of Wynette's in the near future to put in the bator! Can't wait!

So very sorry to hear about the dog attack. It is hard to imagine that the dog owners would express no regret or accept any responsibility for what happened. Hope Barbara and the rest of the gang are recovering from the trauma. Nothing could possibly replace the loss you have suffered, but, at a minimum some acknowlegement would be expected. You are all in our thoughts.

We are so very sorry for your loss and the changes brought about by this tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

One of our little birds lost his tail to a dog, it grew back in time, but loss of tail feathers made it harder to balance on the roost and flights sometimes caused a somersault. We'll pray Ms. Barbara recovers and maintains some shred of dignity as her lovely feathers grow back in!

I don't know about the state you are in, but in Virginia you can "take care" of any dog that is harassing or killing your livestock. Throw a fish under their car seat. Or egg their truck. lol

Well, in light of all the awful stuff that has gone on, there is a lovely little bright spot. Here are five of the seven lavender babies that have hatched so far. Sweetness!

Here in my county it is called the 3 S's....shoot-shovel-shut up. We were told that by the county officer AND by the local game control. I hate to shoot the dog, when it is the person who is at fault for not taking care of the dog.....unfortunately (at least here) we go to jail if we shoot the dog owner....so we have shot a few dogs.

I love my BRs. I call them the BR bitties. I love them and they are full of personality. I am sorry for the loss of your Virginia.

How are Barbara and Monica (and the rest) recovering? How are the Chickendads recovering?

How are the new babies?

Please give us news.
