The African and Chinese goose thread!!

I was wondering if I need to clip my Chinese cross geese's wings? They are about 8 weeks old now and have been flapping a lot lately. Our fences are only 5.5 feet high and if they end up in any neighbor's yard they will likely end up on the neighbor's dinner table. I am not sure if if a Chinese cross will be able to fly high enough to get over our fence. What do you think?

I have 4 pure white Chinese that range in age from 22 weeks old to 15 weeks old, and 4 Africans that are believed to be African X Chinese crosses sold from a hatchery that are 16 weeks old to 12 weeks old. None of them has tried to clear our 4 foot fences. They are content to stay in the yard, but I watch them closely. i will clip if they start trying to fly, all they do now is standing wing flaps exercising their wings, and funning flaps where their toes trail the ground for about 2 feet before they stop. None have lifted completely off the ground, though I am concerned as if they get out of the yard they are in danger from vehicles, predators, and people.

I also have never clipped a gooses wings, is it done the same as chicken wings? Because I clip my chickens regularly, they always want to see what's on the other side of the fence.

This is my 1st time with Geese & I decided on African. I have 2. they are 6wks. got them on June 13th from my local agway. I have 2 ducks with them I got at the same time. the 1st day out they chased the older KC ducks. They don't bother the chickens ( so far ) They are so cute & fun to watch. I don't have them named yet. If I sexed them right I have a male & female.

The 1st wk I had them

If geese are raised in a area that is fenced then the geese don't fly over since they stay home and don't like alien place's unless they have no food :/
Never heard of chinese geese flying! Maybe white but not brown unless it is crossed with Greylag type's

That´s so true... mine only go over the fence by accident, and usuall only do it once. then they learn. They can all fly, and control their flight very well to steer withing the boundary. European (greylag) types. All my birds keep their flight feathers, unless it´s a new adult. My chickens and geese stay put, the muscovies fly off into neighbouring fields and come back. And my neighbour´s 2-yr-old drake flies over into our place after my ducks, which surprises me as he´s such a size and normally those drakes don´t fly. But the geese like to know they´re in their own territory.
