Yeah, especially if they weren't wanting crests or feathered legs.I'm sure it would be possible for someone who loves them enough to put in the effort to work them into a true breed.![]()

I have another question. Are mystic marans and mystic onyx the same thing?
And another question lol it seems I may have lockdown early which is fine at 15-16 days as some experienced people on here often do. However, I wasn't paying attention as I had a second incubator hatching out that same day.. took a couple days for me to realize that I had put the humid up to %70 on day 16 and they are due tomorrow. Will this kill the fetus? What are the chances they will hatch out? I haven't seen egg movement in 24 hours (at least when I have gone in to check) .. Any criticism is welcome as I am still learning. This is my 5th hatch but the first time with both incubators going at once with separate hatch days.. thanks
Question.
How rare/common is parthenogenesis in chickens? My Sumatra rooster has been gone for a year now, & I hatched out what looks to be a pure Sumatra chick. It even has 5 spur buds per leg.
Sorry bad lighting. It's 1½ weeks old currently. View attachment 3536468View attachment 3536470View attachment 3536475
Other possible fathers are:This has been answered already, but to clarify further, Mystic Marans are a sexlink cross, I believe between a Black Copper Marans rooster and a Barred Rock hen but I don't remember for sure beyond that they aren't pure Marans. Mystic Onyx seem to be mixes of mixes that have Silkie somewhere in their lineage. So no, two completely different things as others have said.
This is probably a better question for the incubating and hatching forum than for a genetics thread. But, shine a flashlight in the air cell end of those eggs and look at how big they are. If the air cell is decently sized, they'll probably be fine. The hazard of high humidity is that the chick may drown trying to pip if the air cell hasn't grown large enough for them to reach to internally pip when they're ready to and start breathing the air within the air cell. Here is a chart I use to compare my eggs and make sure the air cell is developing properly:

Well, you don't mention the possible other fathers since the Sumatra rooster is gone, but pea combs, extended black, and multiple spurs are all dominant traits, so that doesn't seem like enough to me to jump right to parthenogenesis on this chick...![]()
Ty! And I will check the air cels tho without taking them out they seem to be quite large on the few I could check..This has been answered already, but to clarify further, Mystic Marans are a sexlink cross, I believe between a Black Copper Marans rooster and a Barred Rock hen but I don't remember for sure beyond that they aren't pure Marans. Other possible fathers are:
Silkies: Silver Columbian, Splash Partridge, & Partridge.
2 Red JungleFowls
A 10yr old Silver Duckwing OEGB
Mille Fleur D'uccle/Silver Duckwing OEGB X Silkie
Blue Phoenix/OEGB cross
Ty! And I will check the air cels tho without taking them out they seem to be quite large on the few I could check..
The Phoenix/OEGB cross, & JungleFowl have white skin too, but the JungleFowl have the grey legs. The Jungle Fowl and OEGB/Phoenix mix could all possibly be the father based on that the chick is clean-legged and has dark shanks.
A Silver Duckwing OEGB should be pure for light skin and I believe would make a light-shanked chick, so most likely he is not the father. However, if he's hatchery stock, I have seen cases where some were not pure for that gene, so there is a chance there. His age makes it less likely, but who knows!
The rest should have other dominant traits I'd expect to see in their offspring, so are probably not the father.
When I said white skin, I was meaning the Shanks. Had a hard time getting to sleep last night. Apologies.Yes, I was referring to shank color, not white versus yellow skin. The gene for light shanks, Id, is sexlinked dominant, so a male with light legs may still be carrying a copy of the gene that allows slate shanks because he could be Id/id+ or Id/Id. So the Jungle Fowl could be the father because they both have slate legs, id+/id+, so they will not pass Id to their offspring. And the OEGB and mix could be the father because a male that is split for the gene, Id/id+, can throw slate-legged chicks with a slate-legged hen. Since Pheonix have slate legs, the OEGB/Phoenix mix can only have one copy of Id for his light shanks, so the OEGB is the only one that's a super maybe because most likely he is pure for the gene, but there's a slight possibility that he is split.
