I know this is a very serious thread about the goat's head, but I want to thank all the posters. I haven't laughed this hard in years. I needed this like you don't know.
Something to remember is chickens are scavengers. They will just about eat anything. Maybe not to the extent the possum will but scavengers still the same. The sore and the blood is just another meal to them. But infection is certainly one thing to concern yourself with. Even without the chickens constant pecking, if the sore is open, flies will lay eggs in it and we all know what comes from that. Then the chickens will have a feast. They may have seperation anxiety for a time but it's for everybody health.
