We decided not to budget for a tree this year- they are so expensive, and we're struggling to keep the house. But we do own a 3/4 acre patch of woods, so we walked through looking for a little pine or such. Dang- all the softwoods were cleared out years ago, and nothing to use for a Christmas tree.

DH saw the framework of last year's tree and said something smarty pants about painting it. I went 5 more paces, stopped, then backed up- it really was a pretty shape....... no needles left, since we toss them out as bird cover, but still............ Dang good idea!

Next thing ya know, it's painted dark green and in the stand! DH did all the work.

We already had lights and a zillion ornaments-

Here it is with the flash-

The tree skirt Mom made years ago, all Santa and wildlife-

And the same tree, last year!

I'm actually beginning to enjoy finding new, creative ways to be thrifty!

That turned out looking pretty awesome!! I'm in the same boat as you on struggling to keep the house. I opted to go treeless this year since there was nothing to put under it anyway. Maybe we need to start a frugal idea thread cause that was a great idea..and I could use a few more
