The Duck Thread

@Debs Flock - Yes I am curious if anyone has tried this. Fresh is always better but for me when something is out of season once in a while something thawed is still a nice treat. I would imagine I'll have to wait another's the or so to know for sure but I have some in the freezer now. I'll be posting the ducks reaction to the frozen critters

@Nason11
- I wonder if anyone has tried freezing.  Some ducks might prefer fresh.  I think it's worth a try, though.

@OldMissionChick
- so if I counted right, you have 4 drakes and 3 females?  Do they all get along okay?  I'm pretty sure you count the days once she starts sitting.  Good luck with the hatch!

Yes I know my ratio is a bit off :( but they all seem to get along alright. The Peking and the Rouen drakes sometimes chase the 2 KC away and other times are fine with them being close. Almost like its one big flock most times then sometimes its 2 separate ones. I do keep an eye on them in case the girls are constantly being mated. The Peking will be go to the freezer. The Rouen we want to keep. And not sure if I want to keep both KC or not, they are pretty bonded to each other.

Thanks everyone for the advice on trying to introduce my duck to my drake. He's getting really lonely now so I tried again, but now she's afraid of him and runs from him so that sets him off chasing her, sigh. He does eventually stop and he actually chased my goose off from her when she tried to give her a hard time, so I guess it's progress. I'm going to go ahead and try to find another same age duck so she can have a friend and I'll try introducing them both at once. The darn drake is trying to wander off to live with the neighbor's flock - they have khakis, and a big pekin males who always chases him off. He keeps crossing the road to get there and it makes me nervous and I don't want to lose him so if he doesn't accept the khaki as his flock mate and hang around he's going to get penned up on his own for three weeks until his girlfriend finishes her hatch. I hate to do it but it's for his safety.

I've heard KCs are pretty laid back so maybe that helps them all get along.  It sounds like you have a great group!

They are very laid back, although very skiddish about being held. I wish one of them would of been a hen though. I hope to have our hens hatch some babies soon to bring the ratio up a bit. Never hatched eggs so not sure what to expect. I would like to get more exotic ducks to hatch.
