Looking at peoples cute photos of ducklings making their first trip outside I commented to hubby that apparently I'm not the only one using a pie dish/casserole dish/quiche dish as a duckling swimming pool.
My poor pie dish went from pool to feed dish and is now, after being given a good washing (shhh don't tell anyone else) back in my cupboard.

Also pressed into use are old mugs to scoop feed and my largest stock pot as a water carrier.

Its a duck thing ...... non duck owners would never understand ...

Does anyone have any ideas how to make the ducks go into the Coop at night. I have 6 foot pond that they would rather stay in at night but they are also taking the young ducks as well,

Try treats. I used peas to train mine to come when I say "everybody in, bedtime". I also use a long (6') white (I think the light color is important) pole when I go out (think goose girl driving geese). I don't hit them or anything, it's more an arm extension.

I am probably totally in the wrong, but I very quietly tell my ducks, "OK, the pool is closed...", and clap my hands twice. They calmly and efficiently form an orderly line and march up the ramp and out of the pool then down to the ground all single file with no pushing or shoving. I am very proud of them.

And if 1 or 2 stay behind, I beat the surface of the water like a mad man with the pool skimmer so they fly out of the pool the fastest way possible (forget about the ramp!!!!). This almost never happens........ any more.

Got the bright idea to slap the pond with a stick last year to get them moving. They looked at me like I was daft and I was covered with duck poopy water.

lost twomore eggs. One had no development but blood in it.i have to get the hang of these outside thing. The last two try's with the ducks mothering. Why is that harder to do.

No development in any of them. I figured we would reasonably get 3-5 good ones.
