But how did you do that? Sex-linked is a single generation thing right?

Barred EE hens and a blue Ameraucana rooster. There are several sex linked traits. The female can only have 1 barring gene that she passes only to her sons.

I'm still on pins and needles here. I only have 3 chicks out of 48 eggs so far. But, I do hear peeps from some of the eggs and some have little holes in them. It's still only 2 hours into the day 21. So far it don't look good. I still have time to worry about it some more. But here is the OE and EE progress so far. I pulled the 3 hatched ones out so they wouldn't walk all over the other eggs. They seem to like the direct heat. The first one has discovered the water already. I always put sugar and vita mix in the chicks water for the first 3 day. My kids call it the Chicken kool-aid.

The difference is the white spot on the head . This indicates barring. The hens were barred and can only have one barring gene which they can only pass to their sons. So barred hen covered by a rooster without barring makes sex links.

The surprise roo - he was in the pullet bin. Seems like Townline is having issues sexing - he is not the first I've heard of this year (they told me they are only feather sexing). What do you think he'll end up looking like? He has a full beard which makes me want to keep him for possible breeding with some of my other EEs.
