The EE braggers thread!!!

Glad to know he is a roo then. I let my son take some of our birds to a FFA show at their school yesterday. My birds have never been out of our quiet backyard, but I thought no big deal, he really wanted to do this project. Well a horse went nuts kicking at a cow, the cow got loose, kids were running and screaming. All seemed to turn out well, the cow was caught, the kids were all fine. When I got back over to wear my birds and son was we noticed our rooster was panting hard and had his wings kinda spread but limpy. I got him out and put him in my lap and tried to give him some water and within just a few mins he started jerking and just died in my arms, I was so devastated. I only had 1 roo and he was great. Good hawk alerter, made sure all the girls were in on time and well taken care of and good with kids. I sure hope this new roo then can be as good as he was, my girls really seem depressed w/out their man to protect and take care. :(

Sorry to hear that. He must have had a heart attack from all the commotion and heat.

So, I've told y'all about my sick pair. I had to cull them last night! :( They were SOOOOOO pretty!!!!
Well, I needed a new roo, so I called around and found one. They called him Ameracauna, but he's not. I'd assume they meant EE, as everyone around here calls them the same thing.
He's very pretty colored, and looks a lot like an EE. But he has a straight comb!!! Its a BIG beautiful comb, but straight. Can he still e an EE? He's red mosty with teal green tail feathers, and a black beard and muffs. He's young so the beard and muffs aren't big yet, but def there.

That is really strange! Mine hold their wings out to the side when they are hot and have their mouth open. I never had that happen to me. How warm was it?

Combs
In theory yes EEs are mixed with allot of different breeds and the Straight Comb is notoriously hard to breed out of any breed. So even two Pea Comb birds that are SQ Ameracauna can produce a Straight Comb, it has happened, so could easily occur with an EE.

O gene
There are lots of talk about Pea Comb and blue eggs going together and all other combs are bad, but Cream Legbars have blue eggs and Straight Combs, and if you go and explore the internet internationally on blue to green egg laying breeds there are other breeds that have Straight Combs that carry blue gene. Now it does seem true easier to get the gene with Pea Comb but a Pea Comb is not 100% guarantee for blue gene, really the only way to know on a rooster is to test breed him to a non-blue egg hen (white/brown egger) then see what his daughters lay, if you get blue or green Bingo you have a keeper rooster for that gene, if all daughters come out laying white or brown eggs he does not carry the O gene (blue egger gene). To be honest you could breed O gene birds with any comb type you like, it just takes patience and persistence.

I hope this helps.
