Out of all chicks I've hatched, I think EEs are the cutest. It's the beards.. The beards are what do it.

Well, you see, my feed store is selling chicks. I pick them up at the store. The BO will be alright for a week until the EE gets here right?

Getting them 2 weeks apart in age is the maximum you should go, according to the chicken guy at my feed store. I introduced 3 chicks to a group of 9 that were two weeks older, and they did fine. Your 2 week old Buff Orp will be feathering and so much more active than the day old Barred Rock, but should be okay. Just keep an eye on the youngest each time to make sure they get enough food and water, and pick really active, alert chicks from the feed store brooder. Check for clear eyes and make sure the vent is clean (no poopy butts, aka pastey butt). A chick that peeps loudly, walks well, and is interested in eating is probably healthy and will do well for you. (But then when they suddenly fall asleep on their faces, don't be alarmed, it's normal!)

Early congratulations! I think you and your mom will love them. Now all you have to do is build the coop!

I dont think it will be a problem if there are only 3 chicks. I wouldnt suggest it if you have a bunch of older chicks and added a few young ones.

Im suprised the feed store doesnt have a chick minimum, tractor supply here has a 6 chick or 3 duck minimum. The local feed store had chicks last year, and had a 5 minimum.

Thanks!!! I'm putting the three new chicks (obviously when they're old enough) with my three hens. I'm super excited!!!! We're building a new coop (as of right now they're inside a springhouse, and it'll get way too stuff) well, I should say working on building a coop. My chickens' old outside coop was way to small even for the four of 'em. My Junior died a couple weeks ago. It'll be three this Friday. So, that's why I'm getting chicks. I think my hens will enjoy having a new sister (probably not right at first, but it'll take some time!) and their owner will too.

Nope!!! No minimum, you could get 1 or 100!!! You don't have to pre-order them, but it's an option. I did so that I knew when my breeds were coming, and so that I could get them no matter what!!

I think a lot of states are changing minimums. In the past here in NH we had a 12 chick min they just very recently changed it to NO minimum. SO this year I might come home with a few unexpected surprises
