The EE braggers thread!!!

I've heard most are late layers. My Marans were about 21wks when they started laying. My GLW started at about 19wks, wasn't expecting her so early. My SLW started about 24wks. My RIR were about 21wks. My EE's were/are the last to start laying & they are about the same hatch sisters with the Marans & SLW. 1 EE just started laying she was about 28wks 2wks ago, so I'm still waiting on her EE sister who is the same hatch age. Unless she's laying a brown or cream color instead of green but I have 13 chickens (hens) & only getting 12 eggs at most.

Thanks for the info. I guess my three red stars are spoiling me. They started two weeks ago and each are laying an egg per day. The two welsummers, the australorp and the EE must be holding out for more treats!

I crossed my red star hen with an EE roo and have only one offspring who lays large dark golden green eggs. I like you mix of birds, I have a similar flock. The Welsummers were the last to lay.

Goldilocks. She is the result of a bantam cochin and an olive egger. about 10 weeks old. She's one of my favorites!

well, my newest roo Matti, he has a new name, DINNER.

he flew up at my 8 year daughter when she was holding a bantam pullet. I told her, next time, don't hold a female near a boy, they get real eager. So lesson quickly learned there, however, i won't tolerate an unpredictable rooster.
two days later, he flew up at me, and I was holding nothing.... needless to say, he got disciplined and he's aware now of who is boss. He gets one more chance, if he blows it, he's outta here.

My older roo Marbles, he's such a good boy, never once shown any sign of aggression to people, and he crows a lot less then he used to. I think he's a keeper for a long long while.

I had a EE roo that got mean. I did thump him good, but he had a short memory. I tried hard to get him to settle down but DW said he had to go. We have a two year old grand daughter, and could not take a chance with him attacking her. He tasted just like chicken.

Just about every Easter Egger rooster that I have ever owned gets an attitude problem, usually after about 3 to 4 adjustments they seem to realize who is boss around my place. I however had one onetime that never could learn, but he gradually did when the ax caught him across the neck.

yup, that axe will do it for sure, haha.

this one almost became dinner that night, but, would have been by my bare hands. I was pretty mad at him, considering I saved his life as a chick, he isn't being too nice in return.

well today he was pretty scared of me, he ran as soon as I looked at him, so hopefully his short term isn't too short !!

That's good, long as he don't forget.

I just got a new rooster given to me on Sat. I went in the run to catch him and he was pretty scared of me. I've got him in with two young EE crossed roosters that soon found out "who da boss". The lady that gave him to me was glad to hear I didn't plan to eat him. Have to say, he has some mean spurs on him. He actually looks like he might be a pure bred Araucanas from pictures I've seen on one of the chicken websites. I need to get a couple pictures of him then post 'em here. See what others think. He has a very blunt shaped rump and he is missing his tail feathers. With that very long neck and his muffs a beard, he is pretty but kinda strange after being used to chickens that have tails and shorter necks.

I have a flock of 12 12-week old chicks. 3 each of: EE, RIR, PBR, BSL. Supposedly they were all pullets, but one of the EEs is a roo. He has grabbed the necks of a few girls already, and I scolded him once or twice. Since then, he won't go anywhere near me, and I am unable to catch him. He even tried to mount one of my older (25 week) pullets, right in front of the head roo. This little guy is a nightmare on wheels, and I have a feeling that turning him into dinner will be very easy. The 2 EE pullets however are more docile than any of the others in the flock. is that a normal trait? one even seems to be at the bottom of the pecking order, even though she is the largest of them all.
