He had actually got in the pen with them one other time and he got out just in time. I guess he wasn't smart enough to stay out. Maybe he was trying to commit suicide?

Mine had gotten into the dogs area several times I had just seen her before Tucker (my wiener dog) did. We also have a lab/rot mix that wouldn't have touched her if she saw, she is actually afraid of the chickens. We caught Tucker before he completed the kill, tried to save the hen, but I had to put her down tonight ........... I was quite traumatized by the event, was actually concidering raising meaties, today confirmed that wasn't going to happen.

That is the truth. Everything gets too complicated as folks make more and more rules. DON'T WORRY BE HAPPY

Very true.

Sadly I have read and read and read about it, but it still does not make sense to me.

I don't think it really has to do with the ee owners I think the ameraucana and araucana breeders get their knickers in a twist when someone calls an ee by one of the other names, and if I offend anyone by calling ee's mutts just grin and bear it because that is what they are, I have 2 ee's now and I agree that if you mix 2 different color ameraucana you still have an ameraucana because the genetic makeup is the same you add a rir and you get a mutt = ee and then the genetics are changed.

AGREED!!!

Kassaundra and previous posters, sorry to hear about the trauma in your backyard today. Unfortunately these things do happen. My first trauma was neighbors dogs and then my own dog found a few two month old chicks that escaped from the run. That was awful. It is really hard to protect you birds from all the predators out there. Dogs get all excited over flapping wings.

I love EEs. We have had pretty good luck with them in the past. I don't care if they aren't purebred. They come in so many colors AND they lay lots of greenish blue eggs that our "customers" love and they are excellent foragers. I only have one now but may order more

Heres one of my favorite hens that we had, she is no longer with us

Got her for free as a chick because the person that ordered here and another chick decided he didnt want them.

This next pic is of the only one that we have currently, she is the one on the right lol, She is much darker now that she has grown in her new feathers I should get an updated picture. This hen is pretty high strung but is usually the first to come running to see if i have treats haha and she is not shy about accepting them either. This girl lays absolutely HUGE blue eggs and lots of them too.
