The EE braggers thread!!!

Sleepy is now 6.5 weeks old. I've noticed her wing color looks patchy, the red laced feathers have me paranoid.

Do you still think she's a pullet?

If you need I can post more recent pics of the confirmed roo and pullet from the same brood.

well, if it's true that my white, hatchery rumpless hen can be an aracauna won't the purists be a little upset? This is, I am about 80% certain, a hen as she is just about 12 weeks old, she could still surprise me with her gender...

I just thought hatchery always = EE. I'll need to get pictures up. It's a little difficult because she is both shy and flighty though.

No idea, but i think that is a beautiful pattern! If he/she has "saddle" feathers, (just before tail), look and see if they are long and pointy, or short and blunt. Roo's give themselves away by being the last to get a tail, and usually a few pointy saddle feathers will pop up too. (I've saved myself from buying young roos this way)

I am pretty sure that is a pullet. We have an EE hen that has the same coloring. I know with our chicks last year I knew by the time they were 4 weeks old which one was going to be a rooster because it already had a raised, comb.

Her comb has been raised since she was about 4 weeks old. It is reddish but not like the boys. Its hard to get a pic of it cause she moves so much.
Maybe you can see it a little better in this pic. The boys combs are about double the size of Sleepy's, but hers is bigger than the girls.

i still love this color combo! i wish i was close cause i'd take it if it turned out to be a boy! :)

(Looks like a much brighter version of my favorite girl i'm holding in my avitar)

I still think Sleepy is a girl. If she was a he she would already have comb development. We have a hen that looks just like her out of our 5 adult EEs. I like the one we have that looks like Sleepy because she actually looks different than the other 3 EE hens.

Sadly, we can't. We are allowed six hens, no roos, hens must be cooped or penned at least 40' from a residence, church, or school. I would love to be able to breed some Wellsumers or EEs, and especially some Olive Eggers.
They do look a lot alike, one is just bit darker than the other, with more difference in the wings. I have room for two more hens, one EE and one Wellsumer. It will be difficult to choose. Unless Buffy turns out to be Biff, then the choice will be made for me...

I am not allowed to have poultry in the town where I live but in fact there is no "law". My neighbor likes to call animals control !!! and they told me that since nothing is written that allows me to keep chickens, then I am not allowed.

Lot of residents have a few chickens in their backyard but they do not have my neighbor.

I have ten LF hens. Ams, EEs, Wellies, Marans, Brabanters and NN and two LF roosters and a small flock of bantams. I like my bantams best because they are so sweet. I am lucky to have made a friend who lives over ten miles away who cares for them for me. Of course I see them as often as I can. And keep the babies in my garage until they can join the others. This whole chicken stuff is way out of control for me.
