it is a small one. I don't treat them when they are that size. my chickens healed alone. I treat bumble foot only if big and swollen.

Somehow this ended up in my alert box Lover of Chickens and my first reaction was ....well
Your chickens need orthopedic shoes or something. And you have ten of them? That's a whole lot of orthopedic shoes (smile )
Maybe they have some chicken foot specialist in the USA? A Pouldiatrist they'd call it I think. Nahh I'm being really silly.

I'm thinking if it's mild you can treat them yourself. If more serious then your talking surgery if I recall

I'd try and find out how to prevent if you have that many chickens that need shoes (smile) sounds like your bedding is wet or something is up

I know this has nothing to do with this but can I use hydrogen peroxide to disinfect a wound on my hen

you could but keep in mind it kills good and bad cells so i would not do it unles sabsolutely necessary

Update: I'm now in the middle of a fowl cholera outbreak citywide. I've lost 7 chickens over the last few days! It's definitely Fowl Cholera. One person told me of someone in our area losing 20 chickens in a day. I've had an enormously tiring day today....burying chickens, removing litter from the coop and run, medicating all chickens with penicillin, removing each chicken as it appears sick to isolation (then burying). I'm exhausted......all starts again tomorrow. I'm thinking the rooster must have fowl cholera hence the lump in his comb. So far he's still with us and bright and alert. We'll see what tomorrow brings. He's been on penicillin the longest. Also giving them Gentamycin in their drinking water.

it doesnt look too bad, are they limping? you may not need to do anything except add more shavings to their run.

sorry, I live on the other part of the planet so I sleep when you are awake.

I do a kind of surgery - if you google it you will find instructions. then I give them doxycycline for a few days. I only do it if bumble foot gets swollen.

Where do you live chickengr? Not trying to be snoopy but I am just wondering and I will look that up once more. I looked it up a while ago and it seems to work pretty well for some people.

I use shavings. And they are free range so I just have a yard they are in with cattle fence. They hate being cooped up. I let them roam all day long and I need to pad the coop up more but I only have one that is limping and hers is huge. I am getting Epsom salts next time I go into Bozeman. I live in Montana so it's kinda hard to get places when it is supposed to snow in Friday
