The Evolution of Atlas: A Breeding (and Chat) Thread

Cheryl, what you were saying about natural remedies being touted as doing everything including curing our national debt, there are people here on BYC and other places on the web who have risen to guru status and have a cult following. I won't name names, but I can just bet some of you know who those are. It's not just the FF, but they perpetuate all sorts of myths as fact and are, shall we say, annoyingly self-righteous about it, even when they are full of chicken poop. Some, I avoid like the plague. If we end up on the same thread (by accident, I assure you), we usually have a verbal tussle because they pretty much lie through their teeth and act as if they know everything there is to know, even the unknown. I can't let them just perpetuate lie upon lie without a challenge. Apparently, nothing is secret from the gurus, they "know all" about every possible issue, they never admit they don't know something, never admit to mistakes and if their methods don't work, they'd never tell, but they doggedly stick to their fake facts to the detriment of other people's flocks.

Natural remedies have their place, but, IMO, more as immune system boosters than actual cures. Some things simply CANNOT be cured, period. But, oh, they won't tell their minions that. For example, the claim that someone has never had a sick bird in X number of years of keeping chickens is misleading when you never allow one to live past 2 years of age without executing it or selling it off. And if you take off the head of any bird that "looks funny", you cannot say that you have not encountered Disease A or Disease B or this or that, because, frankly, you have no flipping idea! You killed it. You did not try to find out what was wrong with it. So, you basically perpetuate the myth that natural methods ALWAYS work because it ALWAYS works with your flocks. (liar, liar, pants on fire).

And my video about some of that:

I know what you are talking about. I have been routinely told how wrong I am by "experts". I have learned to tune them out. It's unfortunate such rudeness exists, but I guess some folks need to feel important no matter what.

There is no reason for folks to communicate in a disrespectful manner.

I do believe that some individuals have extremely low self esteem and are trying to find a place in which they feel they have value. The fear of looking foolish drives them to the kind of communication we've all experienced.

Unfortunately they leave a lot of people (and animals) hurt in their wake.

But one question remains. Why do so many people "follow" those kinds of people and almost worship them? Perhaps it is their own low self esteem and needing to feel like they are a part of a group that feels somewhat elite.

Wow that's exactly what I wondered after our country's last major elections - and almost daily since

I do find those people almost worse than the original person they are trying to be like. I continue to prefer the company of animals over people. Animals I understand, people not so much.
