Oh, my new washer is awesome so far. It was a little weird that it senses the size of the load and puts water in accordingly, no setting for that. It's quiet and does a great job on the spin, too, on the highest speed spin, they almost come out feeling dry, it's so good. In the washer came some free samples, of Tide pods (2) and one of Downy Unstopables Scent Booster, neither of which we've ever used. In fact, I made my own powdered detergent on November 4 last year and am still using it! I used grated Zote soap, plus borax, plus Arm & Hammer Washing Soda and I think, regular baking soda. It has only whatever scent is in the Zote soap, which isn't much. It should last me until this November or longer. That is a year's worth of laundry soap for less than $12.
I had backed up a couple of loads of laundry waiting on my washer and decided to use a Tide pod in the clothes and one on my queen size quilt, which is now put away until next summer. So, only one load of Tide washed clothes. I did not use the Scent Booster stuff in that. Later, using my own detergent, I used a scent booster in that, but only part of the packet, not the entire thing that the instructions said to do. Now, both of us are itching like crazy! And sweating in the summer heat doesn't help, either. I've washed most of the clothes again in our detergent that I made and have been using since November without any issues, but we still itch! Ouch!
This detergent is what we use now. I will continue to use it. Also, this washer is one of the High Efficiency ones that say you must use special HE detergent, a special low-sudsing detergent. I researched that and my homemade stuff is low sudsing and perfectly fine to use in all HE washers.
