A positive test for brucellosis got your whole herd destroyed and burned, and buried on your farm.
Yup, that's what happens if you have ILT in your chicken flock, too. But, they don't bury them, they leave a pile of bodies for you to dispose of when they gas them.
Wisconsin is a place I probably couldn't live because of the extreme animal registration requirement (well, and the frigid cold and snow!). It's partly about the money, surely. What isn't these days, right? But, nice folks live in Wisconsin. I know that accent. A secretary in our real estate office was from Wisconsin. She was a hoot, so crotchety! And the YouTube channel, The Big Family Homestead, they recently moved from Ohio to Wisconsin when a farm came available to them.
Finally, after almost 16 years, we are getting fiber optic cable. The phone company in this area has a monopoly and are very nasty to customers. We said the minute we can leave them, they're gone. When we got here, there was only dial-up. Then, the sucky, super slow DSL. It is expensive for what you get and they say the volume of customers makes it slower. My husband called to ask why it was so darn slow today (it was barely 2MB. We pay for 5MB, still awful, but it costs $29/mo and no other internet choices...until NOW). They said the volume of customers was slowing it down, as if that should be our burden to bear. He said, not my problem, I'm paying for 5 MB, I should get that. They then said there is a system upgrade slowing it down. He asked how long that would take. Their answer? Up to a YEAR. WTH? So, they then said, well, he could cancel his acct, which is our home phone and DSL together, costs $85/mo., thinking we had no other choice. Well, think again, TDS!
We had seen ETC running lines over the past year so we called them and they said the lines to right up to our neighbor across from my driveway and we can get it! So, we got online to check out the packages. We can get 100MB internet, their cable TV with more channels than we can even watch, 85 I think, plus phone with 100 min of long distance for a discounted price of $117. I can't even imagine 100MB internet! Uploading a 4 minute video would take 2 hours or more. It will be heavenly now!
We were paying $10/mo to get the locals on Roku, which runs on internet, so that will be over now, too. And our satellite dish LNB just went bad again. No more fiddling with the satellite dishes and the roof antenna. There are days when we can't get TV from any one of those three sources. The downside is that I've had my main email for years as speckledhen@XXX and now, it will have the last part different. Ill have to send out notices that it's changed to everyone in my address book. But, I also have a GMX already in place, too.
