Woohoo! The hatch has finished! At the end of day 20! Everyone had a clean hatch except for one chick that was having a bit of trouble and had been trying to zip all day but had made a half inch of progress. I lifted a few pieces of eggshell in his zipping pattern and he was able to finish unassisted. He did have a tone of hatch junk on him, lots of "poop" on his rear and the inside of the eggshell looked a little more red than the rest of the shells. Oh and he also seems to be having a few curled toes which I will tape when he's dry (tomorrow morning). The last two eggs (including the assisted chick) would not have survived with Mother Nature because all the other chicks had been hatched and dry for a whole day before they got around to zipping (or attempting anyhow!)
But for a first experience in incubation, a 14/14 hatch rate is awesome! I am ecstatic because I expected perhaps 7/14, if that (since I had no idea what I was doing!)
Overall, very pleased.
And also wondering how my buff silkie made chicks that are 4 different colors with only one rooster.

Good luck, everyone who is ordering chicks! I've ordered some from My Pet Chicken due here in June and am hoping for the best.

I can't contain my excitement anymore! I'm even having trouble typing!

I've been waiting for this moment for 3 long months!! The hatchery is only 4 hours away from me, so they should be here tomorrow! Only people on this forum could truly understand how excited I am!

I will be sleeping with the phone under my pillow tonight! If I sleep as at that is... LOL!

My chicks have been here for just over a week, and they are so fun... a lot of work, but so fun... they call if I get out of their sight! So dang sweet! Enjoy!!

I am getting two Golden Campines, two Easter Eggers, two Black Australorps, two Buff Orpingtons and two White Leghorns! (all females)
This is the first time I will be hand raising chicks! I got all of my starter chickens as adults. Three of my hens have hatched chicks, but they were the ones who raised them. I'm so excited for them to finally get here!!

I have 3 adult BO's and they are some of the sweetest hens I have. They are all 5 years old and yet I still get an egg from one of my hens almost every day. I'm really looking forward to having some more!
