~The Forests of Avalon, A Dragon Roleplay~ 2

"Hmm..." Adeline murmured quietly to herself as Silv left. Then, almost as though the question was a second thought, she looked at the back of his head and asked: "What do you hope you gain by this? What is your end goal, the pot of gold at the end of the tunnel so to speak?"

Amatis's eyes clouded at Dread's mention of Henry, the grief was still raw in her mind, and she had been attempting to ignore it for the most part. "Camilla plans on attacking Caronia to find the killer..." She said quietly to Dread, deciding to confide in a friend who she trusted wouldn't see her as questioning Camilla's authority. "But she isn't thinking right, Dread. She is after revenge, and she won't stop until she gets it. I fear that in the meantime, innocent lives may be lost fighting her personal war against whoever the killer is."

Chandler watched curiously as Amatis circled down abruptly from her hurried flight, he didn't know who or what she was landing for, but he had been watching her for several minutes as she approached the city. Something was amis, something that had shaken most of the council. His many hours of careful observation had not been for nothing, for he had noticed the difference almost right away. They were doing an excellent job of hiding it aswell, he noted, he doubted that many others could have picked up the subtle behavioral changes that signified a problem. For a moment he was tempted to follow Amatis and see what was going on, his curiosity was almost too much to bear. But respect for the senior warrior made him hesitate, he didn't want to be caught eavesdropping. Instead he opted to wait and continue his observation, perhaps he could learn something more without getting in trouble. He just hoped that everything was alright.

From the shadows behind Chandler, Arrow happened to catch a glimpse of a lone dragon staring at seemingly nothing. Thinking it strange for a dragon to be staring at nothing, he crept closer and recognised Chandler, the strange, quiet dragon who nobody really knew. What a nut head! He thought, snickering a little under his breath. Alistair had told him to hunt, but that could wait, what he really wanted to do was annoy this Chandler kid and see if he could get a reaction out of the shy, quiet dragon. "Hey Chandler!" He shouted as loudly and obtrusively as he could without anyone relatively close hearing. "Whatcha staring it? Clouds?"

He didn't pause his stride, glancing briefly back over his shoulder to answer her question, "Perhaps at the end I will tell you, if you live that long."
In truth, he wasn't exactly sure why he wanted it, he just knew he did. Avalon called to him in a way like his homeland once had, the woods and the falls. It was just such an inconvenience that it was infested so, on both sides. At times like this, he often felt the world was against him.

"I do agree, at least in part." he grimaced, "She is not thinking as rationally as she could be. I thought it may have been just myself. As you probably have guessed by now, I am not exactly fighting material." he sighed, "I just don't think we are ready for war, in any sense. We should not be provoking Caronia or whoever else it might have been, not yet. And I still believe we should punish whatever was responsible for Henry's murder, don't get me wrong, I just can't see how possibly throwing more bodies on the table could help. I think we all need to step back and work from there, build our defensive. I'm am rambling now, so sorry. I have been mulling over this when I should be in council with the others. It is probably a good thing I am not in charge here, for better or worse, we'd never get anything done."

Adeline snorted good humoredly to herself at Silv's mention of her "living" that long. The thinly veiled threat might have unnerved some dragons, but not her. In contrast, it gave her a small squirt of adrenaline and made her all that more willing to continue her cover operation. And even if things did go bad, she wasn't entirely afraid of dying. It wasn't like she had anything to lose. Now her only dilemma was to find a way to warn Camilla of the danger she was walking into. She was tempted to just let it happen though, and watch Camilla march into the trap not knowing what would be coming afterwards. Afteral, as far as she was concerned, Camilla deserved it. But after a few moments she remembered Jasper's words, shortly before the end of her training he had told her of the importance of holding your word. And she had given Camilla her word.

Amatis shook her head at him. She hadn't realized until now how much she appreciated Dread's wisdom and forethought. He might not be a warrior, or the one who would lead them fearlessly into battle, but she thought that sometimes he cut himself a bit short and was more valuable as a council member then he realized. "Don't apologize, Dread. You are right, I just hope Camilla can see it." She exhaled slowly. "We should get going, they're probably waiting for us."

"Are you coming? Or would you prefer some other means of me keeping an eye on you?" He called back, the faint sound of his footsteps fading towards Caronia, "It would be best if you introduced yourself to our.... Temporary leader?" He half gagged the last part, "Just imagine how terrible it would be if you were caught by one or two of her lovely brutes without an excuse as to why you are in Caronia. Sadly, at the moment, I hold about as much power here as the average grunt. Wouldn't be much I could do but watch."
__

"Well, maybe we can convince a few of the other members into a defensive strategy. I am not sure if Camilla will be swayed by our concerns, but I also don't believe she will go against the council if we can show her adequate reason to halt or at least delay any offensives at this point in time." He nodded and stood, agreeing, "They probably are."

Adeline moved to follow him, her mind whirring. She wondered if Jasper would recognise her enough to blow her cover, they hadn't seen each other in years, but they had been as close as siblings at one time. Hopefully he would believe her story of leaving Pelendava to join Caronia with Silv, it certainly wasn't a stretch considering that Camilla had pretty much exiled her anyways. It seemed silly, given her position with Silv, but she had actually never been right into the heart of Caronia. It gave her a slight case of the jitters, though she tried her best to hide it. Like all Pelendavan dragons, she had grown up hearing the horror stories of Caronia. She wasn't afraid of dying, but she wasn't too fond of what often happened before death... "Lead the way." She replied.

_______

Amatis frowned, she hoped Dread was right... but she wasn't as confident as him that the council could sway her decision. She had a bad feeling about this one. "I hope you're right." She said gravely as they headed towards the High Guard. As expected, the council chamber was already full and waiting expectantly for the late arrivals. Camilla looked up impatiently as they entered, but didn't rebuke them for being late. "Take a seat please," was all she said.

When she answered it was the first time he tasted uncertainty in her tone. Not fear of course, he was on the edge of believing that the bucket of cats lacked that emotion, as by now she would have at least have shown a hint of it. But whatever changed her tune he was hoping to find out. It was in Caronia, maybe it was Caronia? Although they were practically in Caronia as it was, a little late to start fearing it now. "Of course."
___
"I hope I am too." He answered quietly, taking off behind her.
He nodded to Camilla and the others as he landed, breaking off from Amatis and heading for his seat.

Adeline followed him silently, the only sound from behind him coming from the light padding of her footsteps. She hated relying on someone for safety, especially someone like Silv who for all she knew, could be leading her to her death. Although she generally knew what to expect, and didn't think that killing her was on Silv's mind at the moment... she kept on high alert for signs that he was indeed leading her into an ambush. She wanted to ask Silv what he had in mind for them if Camilla did attack, did he plan to fight? But this deep into Caronia she didn't want to risk someone overhearing them.

_____

Camilla eyed the room and launched right away into the meeting. "Alistair has returned with information regarding the whereabouts and strength of Caronia. I have decided to launch an attack to find Henry's killer and bring whoever it was to justice." She said bluntly, her voice was dangerously cold and distant, confirming Amatis's fears on her state of mind. "All warriors able to fight will participate, along with any learners whos mentors deem them fit for battle." Her tone invited no argument, and for several seconds after she finished speaking the entire room was dead silent. Full of shocked, horrified dragons who couldn't find the words to reply.

"We are heading for the Mountain in the morning. I would rather not intrude on whatever is going on up there at the moment. Could be quite ugly, although I doubt anyone objected, these mindless drones. Give them a direction and let them go." He scoffed, glancing back at her once more, "How does that sound to you? Or would you rather crash the party now?"
____
Dread was well among them, mouth ajar as he strove to come up with something.
When that failed, he just spoke, regretting it as he did. "When will this be taking place, exactly? O-our warriors have seen real combat, since, I cannot even recall."
