The Front Porch Swing

Ok turkey experts help, we have lost three turkeys in 2 weeks they are about 10 weeks old I think. Bourbon Reds only one even acted weak they are just dead. Could it be the damp weather and the floors being wet for 2-4 days?

Cocci would also be my best guess. Turkeys are highly susceptible to it. Turkeys should always be started on medicated feed and never on wet ground until older. The other possibility is blackhead. Are they on ground previously occupied by chickens?

Does anyone want a Hedemora cockerel? Of the three chicks hatched from eggs BM6/CPL sent, all three are boys! I am in San Diego CA. These chicks have the sweetest disposition. I love mine but can't keep him.

Thanks Crystal! They are both very sweet and shy. Wish the two ABs had been pullets......
Want some more eggs? It is questionable shipping at this time, but I don't have any orders right now. I just put a dozen in the incubator for a local, and he took my only cockerel and one of my pullets. I can't believe you hatched two cockerels. I have only hatched two out of all that I have hatched.

I can't send any Fav eggs as they all went broody on me.

Crystal, No, but thanks for the offer!

Only eggs hatching here for the rest of the year are from my flock, by broody hens. I'm trying to find homes for some of the ones I hatched this spring and have a target number to reach before winter is here....

...that number is a little higher each winter....

Well, there is always next spring. I will say those guys are great foragers if you can free-range. The only ones I have that are better are my Buttercups. Looks like my Rhodebars are going to be good also.

Thanks everyone on the Turkey question, I am guessing it is the Cocci- since it seems to have gone around the barn again. All brooders/pens got cleaned top from bottom and I cleaned all the chick brooders and sanitized them- now letting them dry and then sanitizing them again before anyone else gets in there. I successfully have 7 Champagne D' Argent rabbits- this is my does 2nd litter. 1st time she lost all her babies- this time we have 7 of 10 that have survived. I am certainly not counting on them all to survive for at least another week.

Totally agree...let me go in my sleep out of nowhere!!!

On an odd note...I refused to break my "will never buy another store bought egg" record...Its been 5 years and yesterday....I almost HAD to break it! DD graduated Friday and her party is at my house today...The food Ive made requires lts of eggs!!! The cake alone was 10! I ran out needing 9 eggs ...I refused to go to the store and patiently waited for my "girls" to lay throughout the day! I got 10 with 1 duck egg to spare! Game on!!!! Hahaha My DH and kids thought I was crazy!!!

Ha ha ha!!! I love that!

How old do they have to be before they can be on wet ground?
