The Front Porch Swing

Bee - I am leaving my work because we are moving 1500 km away to Quadra Island. Rather the equivalent of moving from Wyoming to Seattle. You are probably chuckling yourself and saying "right, just last week I asked her if she was the one moving to the house on the beach"!

Blooie- be careful if you use my buckef. My usual bucket has a turtle in the bottom!

What a coincidence, Sarah - turtles are my very favorite animal because a turtle doesn't get anywhere unless he sticks his neck out! We'll put your bucket in the corner with yellow crime scene tape around it. That should save it for ya!

I was just reading the other day how to regulate temps better in the LGs....let me try and look that up.......naw...can't find it now. Anyhoo, it was something about placing glass rocks like the ones you put in aquariums in the bottom of the incubator to keep temps more regulated. While I was searching for that I came across this pic here on BYC...would you LOOK at the complicated incubator this person is using??? And this is why I am using....THIS......where the temps rarely fluctuate and I'm not measuring humidity at all. And I don't have to have an engineering degree to put it all together....
Wow, that looks a little complicated. I was just wondering if dirt in the bottom of the incubator would help. I had two water bottles in there but for some reason I had a feeling that they were keeping the temp too high so I took them out. Your design may be the simpler way to do it without spending a wad of money.

Evening folks :frow Just wanted to drop by the Porch and say hello. I've been following everyday but just hiding out over here in the corner and taking it all in :)

Just wanted to let ya'll know that myself and the other half are going away for a week tomorrow to Cuba for vacation. I'll be checking in periodically so I don't get to far behind on the Porch gossip :) Can ya'll say a prayer for our safe travels and that The Lord will watch over and protect us during transit, stay and return ? God Bless ya'll :hugs

Hi WBF. I hope you guys have a nice, safe and productive vacation. May God watch over you! :)

I know the temps got easier to control when I deepened the soil, so it could have a lot to do with mass...the more mass, the steadier the temps, I'm thinking. I also read that the thermometers that come with those LGs are really bad, so folks usually just get a meat thermometer and poke through the styrofoam, sort of like I have mine in this cardboard box.

Do you keep your thermometers inside a water wiggler to measure internal egg temps?

No, I have no idea where to get a water wiggler. I do have a digital meat thermometer through a hole and I trust that one most of all. I also have a "remote" thermometor that I used the last time that worked real well. And there is another thermometer with the doodad to read the humidity. I hope it all comes together.
