The Front Porch Swing

The sun came out right before it started to go down and the snow started to melt off the roof...I think tomorrow will be a nice day! By Monday we are supposed to be in the 50-60s and sunny. I heard a bird singing out a territory today....spring is around the corner, folks! Time to think of spring!!! Will be ordering seeds real soon and planning out the garden rows and spaces.

I gave Jake some deer bones today that I had thawed out from the freezer..they even had some good scraps of meat on them. He was in dog heaven with those bones. I have a couple more packages of those and several packages of chicken bones from where I made stock to dole out. The chicken bones he'll likely just pick over as there isn't much meat to be had and he'll get that quickly, but the deer bones are like dog caviar.

I just saw him trotting happily across the yard with a big ol' bone in his mouth....happy dog, happy day!

We ended up with a little over a foot of snow I think. Now it has quit, and the wind has really picked up, so we will most likely have lots of trees and limbs down by morning. The chickens never got brave enough to venture out very far from the coop and spent most of the day in or under it. We got the kids out in the snow earlier before it quit and started getting windy! The baby just stood still while the other 3 went WILD!!!!! This is the first big snow they have ever been in! Usually we never get more than 3-4" tops, in the past several years. Even the hubby stayed home today and played outside!

Hey all, just checking in. My chicks are growing like crazy! Getting their big girl wing feathers, and a couple are getting tail feathers too. We are getting more snow tomorrow, 2-4 inches, not a foot like you Lindz!! And then it is supposed to be in the 60's by next friday. Crazy weather. But if it warms up I can start working on the coop. Should be interesting, going to be re-purposing wood, and I have no experience building anything!

Bee, your incubator is so cool, I hope all your chickies hatch!!

Me too! Wouldn't that be a hoot? Please post pics of your build and the changes you make....we love those here. We may even steal some of your ideas for our own coops.

Wouldn't hurt to see some pics of those chicks also. You can bet you'll see some pics of these little mutts I'm cooking up if they hatch...they ought to be a real mixed up genetic soup.

If we get that weather too I'll be getting that spring fever to start some projects...but I know these mountains too well. Winter ain't over 'til the fat lady sings.

Awwwwwwww!!!! Cuteness overload!!!! What sturdy, healthy looking chicks! I don't know that looking at baby chicks ever gets old to me...what innocence and perfection in a fluffy little bundle. God is truly an artist!

Here is a link for some less expensive castor oil that Bee gave me. I paid $5-6 dollars for 4 ounces at Walgreen's! It is soooo much cheaper on this website, got to order some.

I bet this stuff would be a good wrinkle preventative. It feels good on the skin.
Oooh they have neem oil.... mixed up in a sprayer can be used coop for mites also made up in a soap can be used for peeple lice and horse lice... mange....

Tonight the moon is so very bright that the shadow of the trees are etched black on the snow...it's an incredibly beautiful landscape out there with the smoke from the wood stove billowing out and the shadow of it on the snow. There are fantastic cloud formations, the stars look like diamonds and the coop looks so cozy huddled there under the moonlight. It would be a perfect night for a horseback ride if one had a horse for riding. God is such a fantastic artist!
