The Front Porch Swing

I haven't been on BYC much, but that's my venty place, and my community. Funny pictures and video of the kids and stuff. Mostly autism related.

I looked at and liked your page. After three years of my friend harassing me, I finally got back on facebook. Mommys need a place to vent.

Today, for whatever reason, has been very hard. I just have zero patients for my son. He is pushing every button I have. I decided to make oatmeal cookies with him at nap time. It's the only time I can give him my full attention during the day. I really hope I'm not getting sick. I wish I could be given time outs and told to stay in my room, ALONE, until my mood changes! Lol. Oh well, my day is almost over. Trying to remember when he's getting upset, to just go and give him a big hug instead of reacting. It looks like no more rain today, so we will go outside after snack. That will help both of us!

I just cancelled my order for Red Golden Pheasants from this other BYC user. Something just didn't feel right about the whole transaction. I mean, let's be real here. If I ask for a picture of the pair, I really want the picture. I don't need an image of the coop they are in. I want to see the pair so I know what I'm buying. He didn't even offer and when I asked, he just said he didn't have one.

Most other people I have purchased birds from either have pictures on hand or are willing to take pictures when they have a chance.

That and who sells a pair of Red Golden Pheasants for such a low price? I understand that some people low-ball themselves, but he also mentioned other people who possibly have birds available but I couldn't find them online or through Facebook. I even searched through his older posts and he's done this before for other users in other regions of the country. How the heck does he know of these people and why won't he post links to their information? I've seen no reviews of his birds, but honestly, I didn't want to risk it. If I want these birds, it'll have to be local.

Sometimes, I have to just trust my gut and work my way around these sorts of things. It kinda sucks but maybe I'll be able to find them locally. Someone just said they have a hen. We'll see if I can get it at a reasonable price.
Let the buyer beware. I think you are correct in your decision. I ordered white rocks and didn't know the seller. But, hey, your know, he's on BYC so he must be all right, huh? Wrong. The first order he shipped were all scrambled due to the wretched packaging. I explained that all were duds and how to pack and ship better. I didn't even ask for replacements. He offered. So he shipped more. Same wretched packaging. Only 2 hatched and instead of white rocks, they are some kind of mutt rock. mixture. Black with black feet. Shaped like a rock. I can't even tell if m/f. Enuff said.

Gosh, I think of that happening and it's incredibly frustrating! Finding great breeders here on BYC seemed easy when I first joined the site, but I've been much more aware of people who don't necessarily give accurate information.

Nowadays, I've been lucky to meet some locals (my favorite only about 7 minutes from my house) and they all raise their own birds that I can see firsthand. My fave supplier owns a ranch and she raises specialty breeds (marans, leghorns, true Ameraucanas, silkies, seramas, etc) and has been great about giving me good deals. She sold me two hens for only $20 because I had known she would eventually have a beautiful silver pencil cochin for me. At the time that the little cochin was ready, she also had a brown leghorn available and said that she'd sell it for less if I took both.

I know now to buy birds from her or other flock owners in the area. They always know plenty about their birds and I can go see where they keep them so I know that all is well. If only I could find duck people around here. Both of my muscovy ducks have come from a man in San Antonio who only owes a tiny flock of muscovy ducks, Jersey Giants and Toulouse geese. I don't even care about traveling that far for them because they are such beautiful, healthy birds. And honestly, if I can purchase all my birds in the Texas area, that means Mom and I can travel more!!!

I'm hoping this year that I can join the club and raise some muscovy ducklings to sell. Lots of people around here love interesting ducks, they just don't sell. I had a single Blue Swedish hen a couple weeks ago and had people practically fighting over her because of her lovely gray feathers. I probably could have charged more for her, haha!

Good plan to bail. Why WOULDN'T someone provide pictures UP FRONT?? Anything less is fishy from the start. If you are trying to sell something, you want people to see what they are buying. Don't waste their time. I don't even look at CL postings without pictures. I sold a 19 Y/O garden tractor with mower deck and snowblower on Craig's List. It had some issues and every one was listed in the posting along with half a dozen pictures.

I agree! If someone is paying you for something and your being honest, why would you not provide pictures? Everytime I have gone to get something without pictures, it has turned out to be a problem and I've waisted my time and gas going to get something that I end up not taking because the poster wasn't honest. My husband is the same now, he won't even look if they don't post pictures.

Lookin a bit green outside today. All our snow is gone. On the upside I can bring in the beheaded(don't ask) light up deer and egg snowman decorations since I staked them into the ground and have not been able to pull them out. LOL

We are getting about 15 eggs a day now. They lay in shifts of 5 all day long.

We had 39F yesterday and with little snow on the ground to start with, the green grass appeared. I went out to the barn when I got home about 4 to put the birds to roost - meaning shutting the people door, giving them scratch and closing the barn door. I was met by not 10 but 7 chickens in the barn. I went to check for eggs and close the coop door. I found TWO white eggs, 1 still warm (from the Anconas) so they are both laying now

No egg from Echo (BA) and they were the 3 birds that were missing. I went out behind the barn and spotted them together about 60' up the 70' long barn. Guess the girls that lay together forage together

. They came running when I called. The other 7 had followed me outside so all 10 girls had a great time eating grass for about 20 minutes even though it was kinda windy. I expect they will all stay in today since it snowed a couple of inches of wet stuff so no more grass to be had.
