My lastest experience buying chicks from TSC was still better than earlier this year when we had the brilliant idea to get ducklings from TSC.
“ they said get ducks. It’ll be fun.” 🤦🏼‍♂️
We’re supposed to be getting two mandarin ducklings, and two Pekin ducklings. At least that’s what the label said.
Turned out to be two Swedish Blacks and two jumbo pekins. Don’t care to have ducklings ever again, but I do love my ducks. Ducklings are much more work than chicks.
Anyways, with our new chicks, here are the results.
We bought:
•2 black sex links (correct)
•2 midnight majestics - 1 correct the other was a barred rock
•2 blue splash golden Wyandottes - correct. 1 is a rue
•2 Plymouth Barred Rocks - 1 correct. The other passed on the 4th night. 😪 But still ended up with 2.
•2 sapphire olive egger - I think correct. 1 is a rue.

Anyways, I’m happy with the nine we still have. They are going to make a great addition to my flock.

Welcome to BYC.
Do you have enough room to keep that many roosters?
They are more than likely going to over mate your hens which could lead to serious problems.

Oh wait...one picture I thought was a 3rd male is just a duplicate pic of a male already shown. You might be ok with two roosters. Might.

We are going to be keeping an eye on them as they mature. We may have to make some difficult decisions. We may even look into getting a few more hens to go around. Earlier this summer I traded three of the most beautiful Cockrells, I ever seen that we hatched for the same reason.
Unfortunately, not all chicks are sex linked. Seems like when I incubate I produce more roosters and hens so I don’t like going that route anymore.

A few more photos

I’ve also got mature hens and one rooster currently. These chicks are just our lastest additions. luckily, there’s some bigger farms around that have been willing to trade for my rooster to introduce new genes into their flock. Mine are pets and I rather not have to dispose of any.

Be very careful about trading birds...that is a good way to introduce disease to your flock. Chicken diseases don't go away.

Thanks for the heads up! That's good to know. We got lucky the one and only time we done it. Got 2 healthy young hens that were still a couple weeks from starting to lay for the 3 rues that we hatched.
