The Great LG Project!

Ink.. The room I have it in keeps a very constant temp and is very tight. No drafts, and not a lot of foot traffic, so I haven't noticed any.

With that being said, I have been fighting this incubator now for the past 24 hours. I find that when you take the lid off and set it down, the temp changes. I believe this is due to the fact that a gnat could pass gass on the adjustment shaft and it changes.

I just checked it an hour after turning my eggs (by hand) and it was at 100.9 so I am going to leave it there.

Well I think that it has finally settled down.. When I went to turn the eggs this morning, the temp was at 100.9.. Close enough for me.. Lets see how long this lasts.

I have been using these LG's for a few years and they can be a pain to get regulated but usually once they are stabilized do well 'specially if the room temp remains fairly constant. The instructions that come with them in my opinion are somewhat vague, the booklets that came with the older models were a little more helpful. I make sure that all of the vent holes in the bottom are fully open so air does circulate freely and for this years hatching I do plan on either buying a fan kit or rigging up a computer fan as it is proven to increase hatch rates. I also use an auto egg turner cause the less frequently you open the 'bator the better. People tend to stress way too much bout these bators, I seriously doubt that every hen has the same body temp due to feathering and some leave the nestmore frequently, some have nest directly on the ground as opposed to a nest box, etc. and still usually have a high hatch rate. I also use an LG without the auto turner for a hatcher. There are much better incubators available but not everyone is serious enough to cough up $600 for one! Happy hatching!!

Thanks for posting this. I'll be setting some eggs in an LG for the first time next week and tend to stress out over all the negative comments about them. I'm sure there are better bators out there, but I just can't spend the bucks on one right now and my niece loaned me this LG. Hopefully all will go well.

I have 2 LGs with turners and fans. My 1st hatch went well 23 of 26 hatched all very healthy. But I had a power outage on my 2nd hatch on lockdown! So I only got 29 out of 39 hatch. I always have crazy temps the first 24-36 hours as well. Mine are in a very busy part of the house and we have wood heat so room temps can be crazy to. What I've found is if I keep my room temp at 68°-72° it does ok. So my DH is always getting the 'honey don't let the fire go out'!!! The humidity is not as hard to regulate for me as the temps. I'm home a lot so I just keep an eye on them. I spike to fairly often in the first 10 days 102.7 or dip to 96.6 and just adjust for it, I've really gotten to know my bators! The one main thing I've learned about my LGs.... I WANT a SPORTSMAN!

I'm excited to see this thread! I'm hopeing to learn something to help out the hatches!
