This is kind of random, but related to the subject at hand.
We had the most fun recently at the Hico Texas Steak Cook-Off.
We saw a sign for it last year and decided to go kind of spur of the moment the following weekend.
When I got off work, we rode down on the bikes, got rained on, but oh boy, when we got close we just followed our noses, it smelled so good!!
We learned a hard lesson about planning ahead, we got there minutes after the last steak dinner ticket had been sold.
We rode for an hour and a half, the last 30 minutes in the rain, and couldn't get a danged steak!!
Had to eat in a restaurant.
This year I got online and bought tickets as soon as they came available, it rained again, but it started before we left so we drove and took umbrellas, and had the best time.
It was so cool to look at all the different custom/homemade grilling set-ups....and to get to walk around sampling all manner of good stuff.
The steak was huge, and delicious, and it was just a good day.
Only thing I'd do different is take along my little red picnic bag, and use my heavy plastic plates (steak on paper plates just ain't right) and take real steak knives and forks....these were wonderful rib eyes, but gristle was involved and my plastic knife snapped in two and cut me better than it cut my steak!!
But over all a really good time. Just thought I'd share
