The Health Care Law.

It was sold at the time as a way to keep gasoline prices down. Break our dependency on foreign oil. Quite popular with a lot of the voters at the time.
I'm not sure if the rise in food prices was an unintended consequence or if they actually saw it coming. I don't always give them credit for being as smart as some people think they are. Besides, they tend to look at what will buy votes today and don't look at the long term. Breaking our dependency on foreign oil was a huge issue.
I'm talking about our elected officials in general, not restricting it to any political party in particular.
They should use ethanol from hemp.

I happen to feel that the reform didn't go far enough. I have to buy my insurance and I don't happen to think the price should include millions of dollars to pay the CEO of the Insurance company. I believe we should have health insurance exchanges that take away the profit motive. As long as someone's paycheck depends on you getting and staying sick you don't have a chance when you get involved in the health care system in this country. Which is what we pay much, much more and get less. Just my opinion.

Yea, I have always thought that was interesting.

Anyway the point is that the Constitution, though old by its date is not an old outdated document.
I find it interesting that the states passed two amendments very quickly regarding alcohol prohibition. The 18th amendment banning alcohol was ratified in 1920 and the repeal of the 18th amendment (the 21st amendment) was ratified in 1933.

We make the same point (I think) The Constitution is not an outdated document.

Yea they found out the hard way (like we are now with cannabis) that prohibition doesn't work. Caused more people to start drinking and took money from corporations and gave it to organised crime.

They should forget about ethanol, altogether. It takes more energy to create it than it produces, and it is a destroyer of all soft components in fuel systems..

Oh, sure, small engine mechanics love it, because a two cycle engine that should last 10 years with no maintainance, now has to have new components every year or two.

Sorry, but it's about as useful as the 1.6 gal. flush toilet.

I've got one question for you. What's in the current bill?

So far, the major component, after it was passed, has gone from a mandate to a fine to a tax. That's just one item out of 2,700 pages. If you think that somehow, because you agree with the liberal philosophy that all risk is life should be negated, and you are going to escape the financial punishment that wrapped up in this bill, you are mistaken.
I hate thousands of pages of bills, fine print...special perks for special interests...

I have no idea what all is in the bill, no one does. It's ridiculous really. As far as the health care reform portion, from my understanding, everyone has to be insured and states will be setting up exchanges handled by either state governments, private insurers, or a mixture. The cost saving (business decisions) of private companies, such as pre existing conditions clauses, are done away with. The enforcement is handled by the dreaded IRS.

Well, Royd, I haven't read the 2700 page bill either but from everything I've read and seen it seems like a good bill to me. Maybe you can point out specifics in it that are dangerous as you claim. I'd be open to hear it. I might even agree with you though, I wouldn't hold my breath, we are pretty much opposites. My brother ended up with a tumor a couple years ago. He's a fire fighter, very physically fit and overall healthy, barely even drinks. His bill was well into the six figures to have it removed. He has great insurance and everything went smooth but not everyone is so lucky. He has a wife and two daughters to think about. This would have sank them. I know it doesn't seem to be popular with you and your cronies but I look forward to a time where anyone can go to the hospital without worrying about financial ruin. I believe your expression for compassion is "bleeding heart." To each their own, I suppose.

One thing I find iffy about the bill is that in 2015 a doctor's salary will no longer be based on the amount of patients he sees but the quality of his work. Who and how do you determine the "quality" of a doctors work?

what is the diffference in having to go along with this bill or not having a say in the matte at all. Our state didnt ask us if we wanted Obamacare they took it upon themselves to sue the government and not recognize it. Is that any different I didnt get a say in what I wanted or needed. I truly hope this bill will help me and the others out there like me. We were covered with company insurance until they down sized and let my husband go Of course we could not afford cobra (who can) so our insurance lapsed. Now he has retired I can not get insurance because of preexisting conditions.I cant get medicare yet as i have 3 years to go. I need an MRI and other tests that i can not afford as our local hospital has a prepay policy or no tests. My doctor has told me and I quote "Well you only have 3 years to wait for medicare until then you will just have to live with it." It being a pinched nerve in my spine and neck resulting in constant pain I am not the only one like this but it is very frustrating hearing all the complaints from people who dont know anymore about this bill than I do Those I assure you have coverage or no medical conditions to worry about.
